I suspect you just need to update 'hamlib' in WSJT-X.? The definition for QMX was changed recently, and something broke with it in hamlib 4.6.1, so you need to update to hamlib 4.6.2 or greater.
There is a button to update hamlib in WSJT-x.? Unfortunately, that may not work (it is not functional on my machine), so you have to download hamlib manually, and copy the new "lib-hamlib-4.dll" file into your wsjtx/bin folder.
?
Or go back to using Kenwood TS480 as your rig type.

The updated hamlib (ver 4.6.2) gave my?
Mcaffee and Malwarebytes fits.? I finally downloaded the 64 bit version as a ,zip archive.? I was able to extract the single .dll file that WSJT-X reqires and copy the new .dll over the original.

I will try to update Hamlib, which until now is a mystery to me. Anyhow I selected TS 440 as? Rig. The funny thing is, that it all worked before.

WSJT-X is frequently being updated and so is Hamlib.? The WSJT-X installation bundles a current version of Hamlib.
?
I found that for a recent version of Hamlib the QRP Labs radios has been changed from one version that handled all QRP Labs radios to separate "QRPLabs QCX/QDX" and "QRPLabs QMX" radios. To add to the fun only the QCX/QDX one worked with my QMX, the QMX one caused WSJT-X to shut down.
?
So if you have problems report the exact version and type of WSJT-X and the version of HamLib.? "The latest" isn't good enough, that's only the last one you found.
?
Once you find a hamlib version stay with it, and as I said I found that the QCX/QDX version works with QMX, the QMX version doesn't.
?
I'm using Hamlib version 4.6.1 2025-01-21T09:43:13Z, WSJT-X v2.8.0 20250314 Improved Plus.

so that is not the original WSJTX ? If I am right my verson of WSJTX is 2.7.0 and I could not find, where to see the Hamlib version. I just wonder, if it would not be best tu uninstall what I have and download again.

Martin,

It is a modified version, (improved in some ways?).
Try it if you wish although I would think it best to use the 2.7.0 version if it does what you want.
Hamlib is here

WSJT-X has moved on to 2.8.0 now.? The 'improved' versions are 'authorised' as they are made by one of the developers as a way to trial additional features, some of which are useful.? That one was sent privately to fix a long standing bug that I'd been pestering about since last October.? There's a lot on the web about them.

Chris,

"Authorised" in so far as it is open source.
The variations are not promoted on the main WSJT-X page.
Like the RC versions "improved" versions are best used by more experienced users.

The current stable version is covered by the official user manual, the WSJT-X group and probably used by the majority.

I see confusion when features of modified versions are mentioned.

It tells you where to put the file.

This is correct,? and is the issue.
No need to update or change WSJT-X.? ?If you have Hamlib v2.6.1, simply choose QDX or TS-480 as the radio type.? The QMX type is broken in this version.? You can see the version of Hamlib at the lower left of the radio configuration screen.
?
Optionally update to hamlib v2.6.2 or greater,? where they fixed this bug.? No difference in functionality.?

reading this I am not near my shack so I can not look up the HAMLIB version but I did update WSJT-X and then went back to the previous Hamlib Version. and I used a different USB port. That changed the com port. Strangely the QMX in and output changed from QMX...2 to QMX...3. Once I had discovered that the QMX+ worked with the rig set to TS 480. Sometimes it is a little game what to start first but it works in the end. So I will not touch it and not venture into the improved version. Digital will not be my main focus so if it works, I am fine with the basics.? Now I will wait for the feedback from all the SSB testers before installing that.
