SOTA QMX SSB

Last night I downloaded the latest firmware and threw together a rather basic microphone, and after going the the calibration tests it appeared to be working well into my main station transceiver. This afternoon I went to my local SOTA summit and was very pleased how well the QMX on SSB worked. Although I'm mostly a CW op its great to have another another mode available in such a small radio, ideal for SOTA.? ?

Thank you Hans for all your hard work on this project, I enjoy building and learning about your radios just as much as I do operating them.

Very nice!

You might consider posting about your experiences on the SOTA forum. Spreading the word is always good!

Don't worry Hans.
It is already posted - #11 on the SOTA Reflector QMX thread..
I hope to add my own efforts shortly, weather permitting.

Roger great to hear its working! Thanks for sharing. Your picture got me curious - what antenna are you using with the tuner and Elecraft balun?

Hi Roger,
Looks like a nice setup. I am wondering what tuner you are using in the photo?

Hi Joel,
I was using my 44' doublet with 300 ribbon feed, Elecraft balun, and the ATU is from Kanga, the Pocket Transmatch.

Roger,
Thanks for sharing the info.?
I was wondering is the Kanga tuner case metal or plastic? I couldn’t find any info in their manual.?

I did an outdoor test of the portable setup today with the aim of going up a local hill later.? As I chased an Italian POTA and 2E0XGO/P on G/LD-036, Melbreak, without much effort on my part spending time and fuel for a further test seemed pointless.? I hope to do a proper activation tomorrow.
?
As I don't do CW? I risked installing the Beta SSB version so that I could actually test the QMX properly.? Absolutely delighted with what I could hear this morning and very much looking forward to its first activation.? Very many thanks Hans - more coffee on the way shortly.

Today, I also tried the SSB firmware 1.01.003 on a SOTA actication (HB/BL-005) - see
The SSB part works perfect, but it was nice to have the QRG saved per mode instead of per band. The change between a CW QRG and a SSB QRG takes quite some time...
Anyway, Hans did a great job here, now we wait for the internal microphone to be enabled.
