QCX Buttons Locked

I discovered an interesting anomaly when repairing a QCX mini recently. The owner had said the buttons were locking up. I found one instance of intermittent buttons from a bad solder joint but no additional issues with buttons after that. I did some other work on it and sent it back and he reported that it still had the issue. He sent a video of it acting up and I noticed he cleared an instance of a menu item using the encoder button instead of the small right button. The three buttons all quit working after that. He was on firmware 1.07a originally and I had upgraded it to 1.09a when I had it.?
?
I tried it on my own QCX Minis. What I found was that normal menu items will not exit using the encoder button, just with the small right button as expected, ?but the keyer speed function (short press of the left small button) will clear using the small left and right buttons and the encoder button. BUT .. if you use the encoder button to clear that screen, then all three buttons stop working. The button problem can be cleared by either holding the encoder button pressed while rotating it or by removing and re-applying power. I checked it with firmware 1.08 as well and all three versions act the same way.
?
So, just something to be aware of if you ever have an unexplained loss of QCX button functions. I never ran across this before because I never used the encoder button to clear the keyer speed screen.?
?
It may have been mentioned on the forum before but I didn't find it. ?
?
Hans I don't see any reason for you to spend any time on it as it only happens when not the following operating instructions.?

Hi Ron,
?
It is a relieve to read this post. ?The same exact thing is happening with my QCX mini 20m because I was not using the correct “exit button”. ?For some reason I would press the encoder to exit right after selecting the keyer speed. ?Indeed it is true that it is the operator error for not following the instructions but I thought that I had built this incorrectly for the past year and a half due to the buttons getting stuck.

Since I am such a new HAM operator with no soldering experience and you can name a long list of inexperienced things in this hobby I was at loss already. ?I wish it would not be possible to “exit” or “clear” the screen after selecting the keyer speed to avoid this issue that even though it is the operator’s negligence for not reading and following instructions but for noobs like me who keeps forgetting it would help. ?I guess I will learn the hard way like many things in life. ?

Thanks for sharing the post and giving me hope that I may be able to build another QRP rig. ??
