New QMX 60/../15 kit wrong wire guage #building #qmx

I'm delighted to receive my kit (Order ID: 94083) but noticed that it seems to have the wrong gauge of wire. ?The larger bundle of wire is 0.33mm diam, which is correct. ?The other, smaller bundle, is slightly finer at 0.3mm but should be 0.6mm. ?I am happy to correct this myself using 24 awg wire if that would be a suitable substitute. ?That wire is 0.56mm diam.? Any advice welocme.

Hi,
Qrp Labs has changed the 0.6mm wire to 0.33mm in recent kits. Test of Hans showed no change or even better performance with 0.33mm as of tighter windings likely. This is described in many places in the documentation.
I personally just build a older kit with 0.6 wire and would have loved to have enough 0.33mm as winding and removing enamel is much easier.
So you are lucky and can just use 0.33mm HI HI.

Dear Thomas,
Thanks for the quick reply.? I can also envisage that using thinner wire will make it easier to thread through the holes with less likelyhood of damage to the enamel. So an improvement there as well.
?
I am using the instructions from "transformer1_00c.pdf "which only mentions 0.6mm wire.? Is there are newer version that I should be following?

Actually, the first paragraph in the latest transformer1_00c.pdf adds this:
?
Supplied wire on recent kit batches is all 0.33mm and this provides the highest performance (older
kits use 0.60mm wire)

Oh no,

How do I unsee this?! =) I can't get rid of the obsessive thought of rewinding it with 0.33 wire =)

(this is partially joke)

Not that it makes much difference in the scheme of things, I have built the last three QMX+ kits using .40mm wire (AWG 26) for all windings. For me it is easier to handle, I have it on spools in different colors, and as far as I can see,? works just fine.? No performance issues that I have experienced.? YMMV!

Cheers es 73's
