Release of version 1.2 of ABS solution for QMX+ (Automatic internal antenna tuner, internal battery and internal speaker with audio amp)
#ABS
#ATU
#PSU
#QMXplus
Hi,
?
I have released a version 1.2 of the solution. Please refer to the readme front page file at the git repository with details:
?
While I am writing this note - a group buy with 35+ participants is happening for this same version 1.2 - organized by Cal (AD8Q) and Stan (KC7XE).

As far as I know the first group buy is closed, participants paid their shares and are in the process of getting their kits.
?
The best way is to contact Cal (AD8Q) and Stan (KC7XE) by email.
?
You can find more group buy discussion (although it is quite outdated at this point) in this thread:

If a second group buy is made I would get one On Wed, Dec 25, 2024, 3:51?PM Sardar (AC8L) via <me=[email protected]> wrote:

Few thoughts about group buy.
?
Cal and Stan probably are busy with a holiday season plus receiving, packaging and sending out kits. Please give them few more days to respond and feel free sending an email.
?
At the same time, I want to remind that this is an open source project. All PCB fabrication files, BOM, firmware and assembly documentation has been published on GitHub. Anyone can use those to order and build the solution.
?
The minimum PCB order size is 5 from JLCPCB - this is where the scaling factor and an advantage of a group buy comes to the picture. Theoretically, if group of 5 is there anyone can organize a group buy. Although - the bigger the group the lower the ROI per each individual PCB set.

To all who are asking about being part of a new group buy of the ABS add-on for the QMX+:
Cal and I have you on our list for a potential new group buy of the ABS boards and components.? Sorry for the delay in responses.
?
We are still busy getting the current group buy out to the 30+ who subscribed to the initial buy, and resolving some (hopefully minor) issues we have found in further testing.? When we have completed that, we will look at logistics, etc., and make a decision about another group buy for those who missed the first one.? The prices for a second group buy, if we decide to continue with it (which is likely), will depend on the number who subscribe to it, since the cost depends on quantity discounts.? Please be patient with us as we get the first buy completed.
?
Here are the ones we have on the list so far who have requested to be part of a second group buy:
ZL1ANY Stephen
W9LG Michael
KF7EJ Will
K7RAN Randy
KS4NS Dale
OZ1ES Erik
Nico Smith
Dave Campbell
?
Thank you,
Stan KC7XE |
One recommendation for next group buy participants - if some of you want more than one kit - please let Cal and Stan know.
?
The pcb order from jlcpcb is managed by the increment of 5 (from 5 till 30) then next jump is 50. That will help with cost calculations and the closure of a group buy group on time.
?
Cal and Stan do not make any money out of it, they do it because it is fun and brings joy for helping all of us. So, let’s make their job easy :)

Sorry if it has been said but how much is it per person? - Nico On Tue, Dec 31, 2024 at 6:20?PM Rhett, KB4HG via <KR4RDU=[email protected]> wrote:

Nico, the final price per unit would be determined by the number of participants, and the related quantity discounts we can get.? But for a ballpark estimate, for the first buy with 35 circuit card participants, and 25 component kit participants, the prices were: Circuit cards from Cal: $38 + $11 postage (to US addresses) = $49 Components from Stan: $40 + $6.50 postage (to US addresses) = $46.50 for a total of $95.50. With 10 participants, the prices would be a few dollars more for each.? You obviously can choose to get the components on your own (as several did the first time) if you have many of them already and can get the rest at a cheaper price. But keep in mind Cal and I have not yet committed to another group buy, we will be making that decision over the next several days.? It does consume a significant amount of time on our part to make this happen. Stan KC7XE On Wed, Jan 1, 2025 at 6:54?AM Nico Smith via <nicosmith873=[email protected]> wrote:
