Battery for QCX?

I was looking around on Amazon and saw this battery pack: KBT 12V 1200 mah rechargeable Li-ion battery for $16.99. Anyone have any experience with this?? ?I am also considering the Tallentcell 12v 3000 mah pack but it states not to be used in high humidity or wet locations. There is a 6000mah version that weighs more but would also work with some other radios. I have heard of several people using this battery and has anyone had issues with it?? The case isn't very water resistant. Are they concerned about fire if it gets damp? The smaller one is somewhat lighter and for limited QRP time might be useful. I have a small Li-ion I saved from a Dustbuster vacuum for now. Thanks

I have 2 Tallentcells and they have worked fine for the last several years. However, it¡¯s dry here.

GE John,

I have 3 QCXs that are used mostly for field trips and POTA. I have used 9v rechargeables and also a 3 pack of 18650s that work well all items from Amazon. NONE of my battery options exceed 12v, I would suggest that any battery rated at 12v exceeds that parameter and that¡¯s not a good thing.

The pack I pulled from the handheld vac used three cells. I have used the QCX with a 8 AA pack so I guess I should add ?a diode to drop voltage. Thanks. Just concerned about the moisture warning.

3 ah or 6 ah capacity??
Thanks
John

I've ordered one of these for my QMX, I'll let you know how it works.

I use a Talentcell. It works great for me. I'm not especially worried about water. I'm more concerned about the radio getting wet than the battery. And even more worried about the key. Once I was using the VK3IL pressure paddle in the rain, and enough water hit the circuit board that it started sending dits non-stop. Fortunately I had another key with me!
?
I've operated in the rain several times. I try to keep the radio, battery, and key "mostly" dry. I've had no issues whatsoever. I think if you go with your common sense, you'll be fine.?

John,
?I originally had a Bioenno 6 Ahr LFP. When I did calculations, I realized that it would last WAY longer than I ever would want to operate. So I sold it and went with 3Ahr.?

I typically want things as light as possible as I like to do hikes into operating sites. I rarely operate for more than an hour or so, but I have done a couple of 4 hour continuous operations. Never even came close to running out of power with the 3 Ahr.?

I operate mostly CW, so FT8 would take a bit more power. So it depends on how you use things. Questions to ask are:
1. How important is weight?
2. How far do you have to carry things?
3. How long do you typically operate?

Techguy,
?
The 1200mah kbt is rather small on capacity, and definately less waterproof.
?
The Tallentcell 12v 3000 mah looks more water resistant but you not
planning to put it in the water.? We aren't talking humidity
?
If your afraid of water put it in a ziplock.
?
generally 3 a8650s with BNB (battery management or protection)
is a great match and there are many prebuilt flavors of that typically
2000 to 2800mah range and that both adequate for several hours
and small.
