iFTx and QMX not working

Dear all,

?

I got iFTx a while ago and I managed to close a number of QSOs with my iPhone 13. This app is not great, it has some limitations, but it works.

?

Last Saturday I tried to activate a summit in 10m. CW was no go so I connected my QMX to my iPhone (lightning connector to usb video camera, this set up had worked for me in the past). While I was receiving from many places in the world when I tried to transmit, that was done intermittently.

?

The solid line (indicating TX) at the left hand side appeared intermittently (like 0.5 sec off, 0.5 sec on) and no qso was done. This set up had worked for me with previous firmwares, although I am not sure if that is the reason of the malfunctioning (I was using fw 019).

?

Any hint of what might had happened?

?

Tnx,

?

Joan

Joan,
?
I use a similar setup, though with an iPhone 15 which has a USB-C port.
?
I tested several feedlines yesterday in the park and one thing happened consistently: with a shorter feedline that lacked chokes, the QMX would lock up on transmit. It would start with a "stutter", and often simply fail.
?
Putting a feedline with 7-ferrite chokes back on (it's a 25' ABR Industries RG58, shown in the attached photo), all problems disappeared.

I plan to try some other cables with/without chokes and suspect it's an issue of RFI & common-mode current. NOTE: didn't matter if the chokes were on the radio or antenna end, it worked both ways, though SWR changed slightly)
?
TL;DR: Choke your cables. Preferably all of them - power, USB, feedline.

More likely, the SWR?reading changed when you choked off the common-mode currents.

Thanks Chris! I will give it a try! Fingers¡¯ crossed!
