QMX boot

I have a QMX 80-20 that KC3SHC put together for me.? I downloaded and unzipped the program, and loaded it into the rig.? I did have to use the jumper pin 7-8 method.
Testing, all I get is a row of dark boxes across the display.? Checked?for opens, shorts, etc.
Will not boot.? Any ideas?

John,
Have you adjusted the LCD contrast preset potentiometer?

Yes.

Remembering my assembly of the QMX that contrast pot was VERY touchy. I went through that panic of black boxes to blank green screen to find a very narrow setting near the right-hand stop that produced a readable screen.

Sounds like my issue.? If the switching mode power supplies fail, the display looks like that.

If you have puTTY on your PC, try to connect on USB.? Mine was on COM6, but yours may not be.

Putty is also available on linux.? There is a writeup on using it in the operation manual.

If you connect and get the diagnostic screen (and only the diagnostic screen) you probably need to fix your SMPS.
Post a copy of the screen here.
You can also probe the unpopulated 6-pin header right next to the power supplies and read the voltages.? Does not give all the same information, but it is valuable.

Good luck,
Mark

My comments were way off the mark.? I was in a QMX+ mindset, and you have a QMX.? My comment about measuring the voltages on a six-pin header on the board do not apply.
To do that, you would have to probe somewhere else.

Sorry to confuse.
