Hans:
I hope all is well with you and no after effects from Covid.
Is it possible for you to give the community an update on how the next generation, 018 firmware is going.? I'm sure we all understand that a firm release date cannot be provided.
All the best
Chris

Chris, I have been thinking the same this past week. A brief top down overview/roadmap of Hans' plans for QMX would be great to know.

No pressure Hans :-)

Cheers,
George.

Hi Chris, George

Unfortunately the last month or so hasn't been easy; my XYL and I had a bad experience of Covid19 (or maybe influenza, who knows, the doc said Cv19 but there aren't formal tests here anymore). In my case it turned into a bad case of sinusitis. My 3rd time with Covid but the first?two were no worse than a mild cold, hardly noticeable. This one: MAN! Never had anything like it in my life! It wasn't even like you could lie in bed feeling rotten and work on a phone or laptop, because it seemed to totally muddle my brain too. Very uncomfortable, I am normally a highly driven and disciplined person, so being down like that was particularly nasty.

Then before I'd even finished the 10 days' antibiotics for the sinusitis we were off on a 10 days vacation for the kids, booked many months ago. Very unfortunate timing... and the three kids, by the way, utterly unscathed... So I am now still trying to catch up on the month of missed emails and helpdesk tickets. So I still feel like I'm in fire-fighting mode, not getting any chance to work on development items. I'm sorry the pace of QMX firmware developments has been slow of late.?

Now with less than 3 weeks until Dayton there's a lot of preparation to be done too...?

For QMX firmware, there are a lot of what I am currently calling minor bug-fixes and minor enhancement requests. Things that will be very nice but are not very difficult for me to do. And bit by bit, in recent months there was progress with several major things getting implemented: sidetone volume, AGC, enabling the SWR meter, fixing the CW keying glitches. Each of these were in high demand and now work well.?

Currently the big outstanding high priority items are:

1) Fixing the Tx->Rx changeover click noise on full break-in CW (even semi-QSK doesn't work now...)
2) Adding the SSB functionality!

After that I will probably want to work on filtering; currently the CW filter is fixed as a 300Hz bandwidth filter centered on 700Hz. But I think we want the capability to define our own filters, some prefer wider, narrower, or other center frequencies.?

I have a whole list of BIG plans for QMX which I am hesitant to even talk about... innovations which will turn it into an even more amazing transceiver. Some may not even be possible. I don't want to list them because then everyone will be clamouring for ever. Let's just get these two big ones out of the way (TX->RX sound, and SSB) and clear lots of the bugs and minor enhancements. Then the fun stuff begins :-)

Hans:
Thanks for taking the time to respond.??
Hopefully the tough times are behind you.
The QMX is already amazing.? Its getting close to base station functionality in a "pack of cards."?
If your long term plans require a new rev, great it will give me an excuse to build another one!
Good luck with Dayton.
Chris

Take it easy Hans,?
The house doesn't happen by magic, but by one brick at a time!!
I believe we all understand about "life" happening.

Appreciate your good spirit so much.

I¡¯m actually pretty sure that Hans has some magic, too.

Thank you for the detailed reply Hans. I was aware of your illness and the effect it had on your work. My query was in no way meant as a time request, more so wondering what this little gem of a transceiver is capable of becoming... its future seems bright indeed!

Kind regards,

George.

Dear Hans,

I like the QMX. Its a lovely small radio. Most of the time - even if portable - I transmit CW plaintext and have QSOs at higher transmission speeds. The first topic mentioned above I am very interested in. I have done already a small investigation. May be the the reading the attached pdf-document may save you some time.? ?

Heinz, Nice data captures!? Lots of clues there.
