QMX Toroids

Will it be easier to install the toroids first then the surrounding parts? I know things are pretty tight, just wondering.?

Thanks and 73.

I found the order in the manual worked well.

John,

I agree with Colin that we should follow the manual. The key is to pay attention to how you install the through-hole components. Ensure that the width does not infringe on the toroid outline. This may mean installing with the other end close to the board. Be careful with the diodes so that you do not get the banded ends wrong. If I remember correctly, a couple needed to be installed with the banded end close to the board.

I would suggest installing X201 before?the toroids as it can get rather tight to install X201 later, but others have had no problems with the recommended order of install.?

May I extend this thread to include the sequence of T507 installation?

Building QMX Rev 1 the toughest problem I had was installing T507.? I followed the assembly
instructions sequence.??

Getting ready to build QMX Rev 2 ( 3 ) I am considering installing T507 before any other components
to benefit from the open space around that part of the clean board.

Would that change complicate other steps in the normal assembly sequence???

Your insights will be appreciated.

I tried to put the body of a resistor or diode away from the toroid, but it wasn¡¯t always possible. Ultimately it wasn¡¯t much of an issue. The toroids snuggled down pretty easily.

I was building my QMX yesterday and the L508 and L512 toroids were a tight squeeze, but did just fit after adjusting the diodes, mounted as per Hans' instructions. The RWTST tfmr was fun to make too!

I wound all the LPF toroids and and fitted everything in the LPF area dry, making sure that everything fitted together, then soldered in the order in the manual.
