#QMX SWR Measurement / Tuning - Power reductionTune% #qmx

Hi there,

... as I'm gearing up to get my QMX into full operation, something struck me with the SWR Measurement / Tuning menu. - I set the Tune% to 25% in order to try to find the minimum power threshold, I may use to trigger my autotuner. However, with 25% I still get 4-5W of output as measured by my tuner. - Bug or feature?

Could it be, that there is a glitch in FW 1_00_014 in this respect?

The Tune Voltage % is only applicable to SWR sweep.?
Unfortunately a sweep is not useful for auto tuning.

OK. That explains the behaviour.

However, in the manual (1_00_014) it says on page 40:

"During the SWR sweep and SWR measurement tool operation (see later in this manual) the
supply voltage to the Power Amplifier can be reduced in order to protect the PA transistors (SWR
protection is not enabled while running these tools)."

So what of the two needs correction, the manual or the actual behaviour? I'd prefer the latter and hope, it's just a minor firmware bug.

Unfortunately a sweep is not useful for auto tuning.

That's definitely true.

Thanks & Vy73

It would be useful if the power could be set to be reduced in normal operation.

The "Tune %" setting applies to the SWR measurement under the hardware test menu. This can be used to trigger your ATU. It's how I use mine. I leave it set to 50% which is plenty for my LDG Z817 tuner to work with yet low enough to protect the finals in the short time the tuner is doing its thing. I also use a z-match tuner using the same settings.?

The only thing you need to remember is that TX will be inhibited when you leave the SWR measurement menu and return to the normal operating screen. To enable it, just re-enter the menu system and then exit it again.?

Well, that's the described behavior in the manual.

However, have you checked it? My remarks were based on my QMX apparently not reducing the power for the SWR measurement. So: Does it change with yours when you fiddle with the percentage? If so, what Firmware do you use?
