QDX repair or advice

 

Hi,
I ordered a QDX and waited a few months for delivery. It worked fine for a few weeks in a temporary setup (wires everywhere). I transferred everything to their permant location (Win 11 tablet, QDX, ATU-10). Alas, the QDX quit transmitting. Moved everything back to temporary setup and the,QDX receives but no transmit. The LED flashes like it is transmitting , but no output. The BS-170s all test the same in circuit, there is no 5v pulse on their gates. Hooked scope to output and use Putty to control QDX. Bot no output.

Do anyone know someone that will repair it for me (for reasonable $$$)?

Hi Sam,

The most likely issue is blown finals in the QDX.? The ATU could cause this.? The QDX is not very tolerant of high SWR values that can be induced when looking for a match.

You can search using the online search features of the Groups.io site to find one of the Hams offering repair services.? I have successfully repaired several QDX, but I do not guarantee my work.? If you can not find another Ham to do the repair, reply to me privately through the Groups.io site.

Sam,. I also would be happy to help you out. I'm thinking fried finals. I have repaired a few QDX units too and I then installed the protection Zener diode across the BS-170's. So far no more smoke. I wish you lived close by but I live in Milwaukee, WI. If you have trouble finding someone to make the repairs, let us know nd I would help you but you'd have to pay for postage. I wouldn't charge for labor as I'm not a professional electronics tech. but I have been doing electronics for over 50 years.
