#qmx Aural warning needed for QMX SWR protection #qmx

The new feature in the QMX which locks out transmit when the SWR is too high is wonderful. It saves finals. But the only indication when it trips is the letter S showing just after the frequency. How about adding an aural signal via the sidetone to let us know it has tripped. A string of dots would be the obvious warning. Maybe others have a better idea. Again, thanks for a nice feature, Hans.

Good idea for headphone use but not useful for DIGI modes.? I usually check the display to see I get power and low SWR.? ?

I agree with both Chris and Jim.
I've wasted a fair amount of time myself thinking I was transmitting while I was unknowingly in SWR protection mode.
My suggestion for a more easily noticed warning would be to flash the display on and off. Either by toggling the backlight on/off or by turning off all of the characters except the "S" SWR fault indicator once per second.

Or maybe just have the "S" indicator alternate between normal and reverse/highlight.? Anything changing rhythmically is going to be attention-getting.
I recently worked on a project which used a display which had programmable backlight colors, which would be ideal for displaying VSWR, for instance, or other mode/alarm statuses..

... or add a simple 3 component LED tx out indicator (blue or green 3mm dia. LED) to show that the tx is actually outputting something. Easy to see. As customary in many/most QRP rigs, including the QDX. Pity this was eliminated in the QMX design.

The LED was used on QDX because QDX has no LCD or other means of user interface. So some kind of status?indication was needed.?

QMX has an LCD and there are multiple ways to know it is transmitting, by looking at the screen... When in digi mode the underline under the VFO symbol will indicate that it is transmitting. In all cases the Power/SWR indicator should be enabled and clearly indicates that power is being transmitted.

So all the information is all there on the?screen... I could implement things flashing though, to indicate an error, if it makes it easier to see.?

Hans,
I totally agree with you: everything we need to see is readily seen on the LCD screen, no blinking LEDs needed. The introduction of SWR/Power meter in QMX is a tremendous step forward eliminating the need of external meters etc.?
So, if I could express my personal wish here- if only you feel like spending some time on improving the QMX, could this be spent on fixing this terrible AGC/sound-bursts issue and this awkward Morse keyer glitch first? Please, please , as without fixing these two issues this fantastic radio could not be fully enjoyed, or , for some people, even used at all. Thanks in advance! 73! Linas LY2H

Beeping error codes is really helpful. My Kenwood beeps SWR AT 25 WPM when I try to transmit into high SWR.?
