Experimental #experimental

Experimentation is at the heart of amateur radio. Like any science, that's how we find stuff out and twist our brains into different perspectives. Observe - hypothesise - experiment is how I was taught. It is fabulous to see that some are actively engaged in experimentation on this forum and posting their results?for review and discussion. We all learn from this.

However, I would ask you to consider that many QRP Labs newcomers will come to this forum to assess whether these radios are any good. There have been a few experimental topic titles of late that a newcomer might find discouraging as they "appear" to challenge the design and integrity of these radios.

Hans as the manufacturer of course has to react as any of us would. He has to investigate these experimental claims and then post a measured response.?

This I am sure takes up a great deal of his time which I am sure he would rather devote to bringing us new features and designs.

So as to not in any way detract from my 1st paragraph, why not simply #experimental for?related posts? Hopefully that will be seen by newcomers and will embrace this forum for the wonderful fountain of knowledge and discussion it has become.

Hear hear, THANK YOU, great idea Ted... I think adding an #experimental tag to the topic subject line would be a great way forward; that way we can continue to encourage and learn from all the experimenters, without any newcomers being in any way confused or terrified by what they see.?

It will work for a week, until the next batch of 200 newbies join up having never read this message
or use the *web based forum* + search facilities, and all start the next batch of silly questions
and moans ;-)

Twaddle like -

What's the best antenna / atu for a QCX ?

PA blown up (because constructor hasn't got a clue about FET Gate input volt adjustment).

Why is my high band power output lower than the LF versions.

Why is my WSPR signal sounding like a continuous tone (expecting it to sound like AFSK SSTV or RTTY)

What's the best place to by a 1K2 resistor / diode / 100pf capacitor.

Is a MFJ 12V PSU better than my Astron? for use with a Qxx.

That's seven of the usual and very tedious crappy questions at least once every two weeks.

The majority of us that have been here for some 13 years get fed up repeating advice and stay
silent, leaving only the Noble Peace Prize WHINERS (sic) posting, which in turn leaves only daft posts on the
group, which then in turn makes other newcomers mistakenly believe that all the posts are negative.

That makes them think that the products must be rubbish.

I've had 13 years of NO busted PA's.

QLG and QLG2's switch on with no magic smoke and never having a skipped beat
since the day they were born and all these rigs have been beeping away for some 10 years
with the PSU connected 24/7, never switched off apart from QTH moves or local power failures.

Antennas remained connected during all thunderstorms for all those years too.

All running beacons for 90% duty cycle.

No worn out ATMEL 328's, ever, now into several million writes for GPS calibration cycles.

10,000's of users get the same results, but it only takes five or ten silly users who write crappy
posts for weeks on end to end up distorting the perceived view of the products.

(And some them profess having 40 years engineering experience blah blah, and can't even
connect a Progrock correctly to the outside world).

And the list goes on, sigh..

Maybe Hans should insist that future purchasers show a Certificate of Sanity before clicking
the BUY NOW button ;-)
