QMX wont boot

?

Hi,

?

I just built the QMX but I can’t get it to power up so I can load the firmware.

?

I followed all the instructions as far as I can tell.

Can anyone suggest a path where I can get it fixed.

Just to help.

I have not got any hot or burnt components.
I checked all the things mentioned in the build manual.
I do hear slight pop noises when I press the left encoder.

There's a vast amount on this group on this subject.? The trouble is that it's such an active group that the information is ephemeral. The search isn't very good.? Is there a way to collate the good information and put it in one place where it can be found easily?

Fundamentally the first thing to check is that you have power to the processor.? You should have 2.5 to 3.3V on the VDD line when you press the left encoder button. It should stay on after you release the button.? The current taken should be a little under 200 mA.? If you don't have voltage at all the MCU won't start and until it does the power won't stay on.

There's a row of 10 holes on the top left side of the main board.? The third from the left is VDD.

If you don't have power go through the circuit to try to find out why.? I posted a suggested guide to checking the PSU boards independently of the main board which might help.

Hi Chris,

Thankyou for your input.

So I measured as you mentioned and nothing - . So I put the multimeter on the DC input jack and it was only showing 7v (from a 12v input)
Tried another DC cable I had from a swr meter and bingo it started up straight away.
I haven't investigated the supplied DC cable yet, but the problem is solved and the radio has noe been updated.
Radio now displays 7.074 and I hear noises.

OK I'm off to find a cw key / SWR meter etc and do some RF tests.

Mike

Looks fine to me.

J43ND reported 5NN on first call to his CQ , so must be good.

Hi. What about this?

Mike--

Jeff Moore is one of several people here who often repair stuff for others. He just looked at my QMX to see if I'd missed something, and unfortunately we both agreed that my MCU got fried somehow. :-(

But before you resort to that, listen in on some of the help others have gotten and see if something applies to you. If you're not technical or don't have the equipment, then people like Jeff may be your best bet.

Good Luck!

Does this mean that the firmware was installed successfully? I hear radio noise in my headphones. The volume is adjustable. When I press the left encoder, the radio turns off.
What could be the cause of the malfunction?

Try adjusting the LCD brightness, turn it all the way counter clockwise.? I made same mistake when I first turned mine on.

Good luck? 73
