#qmx #qcx-mini Memorable QSO...

Hi all With all due apologies, I know this group is not supposed to be a log book but...? I was thrilled to be the QSO partner of Viktor UT3URA /P in Ukraine, on his first ever amateur radio QSO; which he made using his newly constructed 20m QCX-mini station (see attached). At my end, I had a little trouble with my own QMX which is in the middle of firmware development of 1_00_007 and wasn't in a quite functional state. So I "borrowed" a newly built QMX from the assembly?line, for the sked. Supply voltage 12V and about 4W to my OCFD antenna. Conditions seemed rather poor but I worked 9A2N and the Turkish republic 100th centenary special event station TC100TC also. I see if I work them 4 more times on various modes and bands I could have an award :-)? 73 Hans G0UPL |

Hi Mike ? Wow, his first ever amateur QSO was on CW! Yes, AND on a QCX-mini kit he built himself, PORTABLE, with a portable setup he built himself! And QSO with the designer of his radio! AND from a war-torn location. Young guy, too! Hope indeed! 73 Hans G0UPL |
Hans, Big congratulations on that most unique and jaw-droppingly rare QSO on so many levels. You should feel most proud!

开云体育Hi Hans, Speaking for myself, I have no issue seeing the odd message about QSO contacts, especially one as special as this. As a relatively new ham, I still remember the thrill of my first SSB QSO, and look forward to my first CW QSO at some point in the future (on my QMX of course, once built). My other confession - I like your log book
headings "His Signal" and "My Signal" - much clearer than the
often seen "Sent" and "Received", at least to me. When I
started: "Does 'sent' mean the signal report I sent to the other
operator, or the signal report from him to me." After a few
weeks, you become afraid to ask!! I think I will be modifying
the log book pages I make. Did you purchase your logbook, or do
you make them? Congratulations as well to Viktor, UT3URA/P! 73 Paul, MW7PAJ On 01/08/2023 12:17, Hans Summers

Thanks Paul! Even as a NOT so relatively new ham, I still remember the thrill of my first CW QSO, and look forward to my first SSB QSO at some point in the future (on my QMX of course, once I get the firmware developed). My log book was purchased, not made don't ask me where,?it was at least 21 years ago,?my first (first ever) QSO in there on 25-Apr-2002 (80m CW, see ). There is no "them" about log books, this is still the first one. I don't get out much (or on air much). I'm up to QSO # 1745 now but I still have some empty pages to fill.? Until I caught a cold worse than the twice I had Cv19 (sorry for the not-to-be-mentioned thing here) last Friday, I had for a couple of weeks been getting up pre-dawn and spending an hour on my QCX 40?+ 50W Amp, improving my CW operational skills. Right now I am eating all the prescribed antibiotics and inhalers and sleeping as long as I can to see if I can eventually recover. But anyway I WAS filling up those empty pages at quite a rate, 5-10 QSO's per morning session. And if you are anyway going to watch the sunrise, and the sunset, from the vaulted penthouse suite R&D Dept here at QRP Labs towers, you may was well get some CW in to mitigate the suffering.? I am torn between - when I reach the end of the log book in the not distant future (assuming recovery from this "cold") - buying another, or modernizing myself and getting electronic logging going. I'm kind of thinking since CW and amateur radio's use of it is well over a century old, and part of the pleasure of using it is participation in such an age old tradition and maintaining it, what's the need to "modernize" - why not record it on real paper? 73 Hans G0UPL On Thu, Sep 7, 2023 at 12:46?PM Paul Jewell via <paul=[email protected]> wrote:
