Re: QCX+ Variable Output Power for QRPp Operation
John, I made the mod mentioned above on an old 20 meter Classic QCX I use for experimenting. I fed the Emitter of Q6 with a separate variable voltage and left the rest of the radio running at 13.8

The attenuator kit has a single bypass button that can be used for receive. Not automatic but usable. 72 Don ve3ids

Hi all, interesting topic / discussion. Coming to the end of 0.7 'unknown' reel of solder that has provided excellent results over several years (it was a big reel!) using a couple of soldering irons

Hi Don Sounds like a much simpler solution When you do an RF sweep of 20m what is the level of the sweep in the 14 mhz range... I think the best I got was -12 db with an external toroid and coil Dave

Upon completion of my QMX (#331) build I found that the sensitivity on 20 meters to be quite poor, about -92 dBm (5.6 microvolts) for a Minimum Discernible Signal. A topic soon appeared on the forum

Re: QCX+ Variable Output Power for QRPp Operation
John, Another safe and very flexible way to go is a step-attenuator.? This site has some good info on QRPp as well as construction of simple 43dB attenuator in steps of 1dB.

I modify and repair boards routinely.? The pads don't need repair, just bridge them with wire. I would obtain some fine gauge wire, I use wire-wrap wire or single strands from stranded wire and tin

Don, Congratulations on moving forward with your test gear. There are 2 points on either side of the push-pull PA that you want to measure:? The gate inputs and the drain output of the BS170s.?
