Re: SteppIR and QRP Labs

Congrats on the collaboration Hans.? ??

I was an early SteppIR antenna user with a 3 element yagi at 100'.? When the antenna works...it works well.? When it doesn't........? If you are considering a SteppIR yagi, my advice would be to only put it on a crank up/over tower.? As you age, the ability or desire to climb the tower for repairs quickly fades.? I currently have a replacement antenna on order to replace the broken SteppIR and I know I am trading a bit of performance for reliability but for me and my Rohn 25 tower it makes sense for?the?long haul.? I was a lot younger when the Rohn 25 tower went up.

I like the concept of the SteppIR but not the maintenance needed.??

My $.02

You'll love it Hans! I have had a 3-el SteppIR up on a 15 metre high tower since early 2006.

Also, I can confirm that it works with the QMX. I worked 100 DXCC entities in 40 days (Sept 1st - Oct 10th) with just 4 watts (95% 20M FT-8).

Enjoy!
