Where Did Everybody Go? 2
I had hoped this group would take off. I’ve been on the QRP-L email reflector since about 1994 I think but it is a real pain to follow a thread on my devices these days. Consequently I’m no longer very active on there but I sure miss it. 73, Steve Yates - AA5TB

Dayton Ephemera
Begin forwarded message: From: Bob Bennett <bobsmacbox@...> Subject: [QRP-L] Dayton Ephemera Date: July 8, 2018 at 11:54:32 PM EDT To: "qrp-l@..." <QRP-L@...> FDIM has a vendor night and a club night Thursday and Friday of Hamvention weekend. Both events are free and open to the public. A number of ‘experimenter’ clubs sell Qrp kits as well as vendors. There are some compilations of QRP projects over the past 40 or so years also sold there. I got one on CD and another in a ‘dead tree’ version. Bob nz2z

FT8 as a conversational mode
> If you read the documentation from Joe Taylor you will see that the “X” is WSJTX stands for “Experimental”. It was not meant to be a ‘conversational’ it is a mode to test the propagation of low signals. The success of this experiment will impact the future of cell phone technology (fewer dropped calls) and even the Mars landing. Let’s all participate in this ‘experiment’ and help this Nobel Prize winner advance technology. Remember that the current cell phone technology is rooted in the old VHF/UHF repeaters, that proved to the telecom industry that signal hopping could work. > > Who am I to argue with a Nobel Prize winner ;-) I assume that he has a reason for designing FT8 the was he did. > > Ham radio is science, and the fundamental building block is science is experimentation. Let us all help. > > Bob nz2z

Let me know when this group springs to life 2
I just read the text based mailman latest digest. Sorry can't take it anymore. The format is just awful compared to this. So I will patiently await the switch. Please make it soon. lol

What's Up? 4
Did this group fizzle before it even started? When looking at the posts on QRP-L I thought this was to be the better option and folks would be migrating here. Did I misunderstand the intent? Dana KM4TIX

Wow, this is great. I'm the eighth one to sign up and the first to post anything. So, let me introduce myself. At almost 62 years of age I've been a ham for two years now. April 2016, Technician followed in June as Amateur Extra. I worked satellite communications in the Air Force until my retirement in 1994. Since we only put out 5 watts into the 39db gain antenna would that count as QRP? I currently work the digital modes using my Elecraft KX3 and I keep the power at 5 watts or less. Using a Hustler vertical antenna with a few radials doesn't provide the DX capabilities I'd like but I'm working it. I also have a Kenwood TS-520 with Yeaseu FL2100B amplifier that have been packed away since I aquired the KX3. I only work QRP at this time and don't feel the need for anything else. Well maybe QRPp. I'm looking forward to doing some field work and will likely be camping in North Georgia toward the end of May, work load permitting. 73 to all and I'd like to see more posts on this venue as I understand pictures and diagrams are easier to include.
