International Quilt Museum ....Lincoln Nebraska 2
Hi everyone I admit that I get quite depressed by endless grey and miserable November days but this evening I listened to a wonderful talk given to the French speaking group of SAQA which was very enlightening and cheered up any winter day. The talk was given by Leslie Levi the director of the International Quilt Museum (in English!) and she mentioned that the museum had made available many Virtual Experiences to the public whilst they had created whilst the museum was closed due to the Covid-lockdown. It is a wonderful resource to explore so I hope some of you will follow me to wandering around this site to see this treasure trove of quilt exhibitions, talks, etc. It really is the perfect antidote to a dismal day!! https://www.internationalquiltmuseum.org/ Brenda

Developing a new learning activity #1 Writing Comments 2 #JudgingActivities
Dear students, tutors and team support The tutors are planning a learning activity which will be posted on our private Facebook group (QJ students 2018/2021) and should appear in the coming weeks. The idea is to present you, at regular intervals, with a number of quilt images and invite you to consider them individually and leave a ‘constructive comment’ in the comments box below each image. The aim of this learning activity is to enable you to practise writing comments which are clear and concise and to learn from sharing your comments with your colleagues in the group. This will be an optional exercise and will not be assessed but we do encourage you all to participate and share your thoughts. No time limits will be placed on leaving comments. The activity requires LOTS of images of quilts for which the makers have given permission for use with this educational purpose. So please can you each send me (brendawroe@... or judgingtutor_bw@...) a few images for the pool (with a title and dimensions if possible). I will post them anonymously during the coming weeks so that your privacy is maintained. These images can be your own work or that of friends but please ensure that you have their permission to post them in our secret FaceBook group before you send them. I have previously loaded an article written by a US quilt judge Scott Murkin in the Photos section of this site (groups.io) which is useful preparatory reading for the exercise. We will run the exercise for a few weeks and just see how it goes. Stay safe and keep well everyone Brenda, Annette and Steve.

Rescheduling Module 5 #poll
Dear students Thank you all for voting in our poll to decide on the next steps for Module 5. The results indicated a clear preference for postponing the module until April 2021 and it will now take place, as previously planned in Edinburgh. We will need to confirm the new booking with the venue later in the year, probably when we all have a better understanding of the situation with the Covid-19 virus and its impact on international travel for everyone. We will inform you as soon as this has been done so that your personal plans can be made. For those who are curious, all 17 students voted in the poll, 41% voted in favour of the online exercise in summer 2020 and 59% voted in favour of a group meeting in April 2021. No-one expressed 'no preference'. The tutor team will endeavour to plan some judging-related activities to keep your skills active during the pause from formal study. If you have any ideas you would like to share with the tutors please feel free to contact anyone in the team. Keep well and please stay safe. Annette, Brenda and Steve.
