Hot glue comes loose if you wet a paper towel in isopropanol alcohol and push/massage it over the entire glob of glue. It will come loose at the glue’s mating surface so it doesn’t melt the glue; it simply pops loose in one piece.

You need to use epoxy for this which unfortunately is quite permanent so you need to use some large C clamps? (harbor freight has them very cheap) to fixture the sight to the OTA with the clamps. Get it aligned then clamp in place. Do not
over clamp it because once the clamps come loose, if you have them clamped down super tight, the alignment will be off. So try your best to only clamp it tight enough so that it doesn’t move. Once you KNOW it’s aligned properly, then use the epoxy. You ought
to watch a couple videos before you use it so you understand exactly what you’re going to do before you do it. Depending on the type of epoxy you use, they have different set times. Some are as low as 60 seconds, others are 24 hours so select something that’s
not going to set up too quickly.

Wait for other replies before setting off on this. Good luck and keep us updated.

I'm looking for ideas ...
As you can see in the photo, the base of the finder broke.
I had previously managed to glue it back together and align it correctly using a good dose of hot glue. I had done the alignment during the rather long cooling time. Everything was fine until a very hot day when the ETX was in the sun ...
The hot glue softened completely and the finder came off again.
So I can't use this glue with such a low melting point.
I spent a lot of time to successfully remove the glue! I needed a cutter by bending the blade, my fingers, a cloth, a wire brush ...
Do you have any ideas for making a more solid repair taking into account that the rough alignment is not easy but must be quite correct all the same from the start to be able to use the two fine alignment screws ...
