Re: Solar activity Jun 8, 2020
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell spotted Sylvain.? I had a quick look at the Sun a few days ago and saw nothing but I have to admit to not keeping an eye on SOHO.? I've given up on the Sun, it has been so inactive for so long. Best wishes, On 08/06/2020 11:43, Sylvain Weiller

The old ETX125 comes back :)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi all, Generally I
image with at least 200 mm diameter scopes (Celestron 8 or
10")... Tonight I
took out the 12 year old Meade ETX125 to see on Jupiter and
Saturn what it will give with modern cameras ! The result is
really much nicer than with webcams ! There is a black hole in the GRS, very funny ! I used a 2x
Coronado Barlow and ASI 224MC camera. With the seeing I have those days I am not sure larger scopes would have made better images ... Best Sylvain ![]()

Really good images. Was it on the original AZ mount? Regards Steve Dr. S.J. Wainwright Sent from Android On Fri, 30 Jul 2021, 00:59 Sylvain Weiller, <tashrak1000@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Steve, Thanks ! As the capture times were short (1 - 5 min) I use ALT-AZ. Tracking was good enough ! It was only difficult to center correctly in AZ (some yoyo at
adjustments) BR Sylvain Le 7/30/2021 ¨¤ 3:15 AM, Dr Steve

Hello,
I couldn't resist to capture the Moon although it drags me to around 4 am! ASI 224MC camera at the focus of the ETX125. Mosaic of 3x 60s videos processed with AS3 (max conv) and stitched with ICE. The fairly gentle treatment of this last image with Topaz Sharpen AI brings a little extra finesse on Triesnaker's rimae for example ... All to see in 100% or 150% zoom! I only uploaded a very small image ... Please download the WeTransfer link for the superb originals (~ 6 MB) ++ Sylvain -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. |
Re: The old ETX125 comes back :)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Sylvain. I do so agree with you.? The ETX125 is a great little 'scope.? I bought one of the earliest when it was on a very, very poor tripod, and the mount has never been good enough.? I had the (mis)fortune that it fell over when I left it out one night and it smashed the mount beyond repair but the OTA was fine.? I would probably have taken if off by now anyway as I need to be able to put it on the mount in my observatory. The best picture I have ever taken of Saturn was with the ETX ()©¤mind you it was in 2003 when Saturn was high in the sky.? However here is one I took a few nights ago with the ETX.? Not as good as yours, but I wouldn't expect that ;-), but I am very pleased with it.? I was experimenting with drizzling in Registax.? It will make it to my web page eventually. Only one criticism of your images, Sylvain.? They are all up side down? ;-)? Very confusing! Best wishes, On 29/07/2021 23:59, Sylvain Weiller

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI forgot to comment on your Jupiter image, Sylvain.? Brilliant to catch a shadow crossing the GRS.? And is that a second shadow just coming in on the left?? A double transit is so much rarer.? I love shadow transits but I think I have only once managed to image one©¤back in 2014. Peter On 29/07/2021 23:59, Sylvain Weiller

Indeed GRS sometimes is DOWN but there are places it is shown UP ... confusing :) For Jupiter and Saturn my better image are due not from me but to the higher elevation here in Jerusalem (31.43 N) ! BR Sylvain Le 7/30/2021 ¨¤ 7:55 PM, P H LLOYD via groups.io a ¨¦crit?:

Thanks ! Added Topaz Sharpen processing ... Joined is the configuration (winjupos) ! Callisto crossing the GRS, a shadow visible and Io on the disk ! I guess Io is arrowed ... BR Sylvain Le 7/30/2021 ¨¤ 8:02 PM, P H LLOYD via groups.io a ¨¦crit?:
