Amateur Extra Question Pool with Correct Answer Only
Good day, For those of you looking to upgrade to AE, I've created a study document that contains the new question pool and CORRECT answers only. This document is valid from 7/1/2024 through 6/30/2028. For folks who use the memory method, it is not necessary to memorize incorrect answers. You can find it here: http://www.queencreekarc.org/2028Extra.pdf Here is another version from AD7FO that also adds some tips and explanations: http://www.queencreekarc.org/2024Extra_syllabus.pdf Regards, Joe, N2QOJ Queen Creek Amateur Radio Club East Valley Amateur Radio Group

The Next Radios @ Home on Saturday, June 15th...
The next Radios @ Home event will be this Saturday, June 15th, starting at 10:00 hours until around 12:00 hours. If there's enough activity, we'll continue on for a while longer. What is Radios @ Home? It’s a continuation of the Radios Under Sun Shade events that run in the east valley and elsewhere during the cooler months. It’s an opportunity to maintain and exercise our equipment and our skills and to make as many contacts as possible while running your radio station off-grid from the comfort of your air conditioned home. We use a frequency of 146.460 and many use a PL tone of 77hz as well. So please feel free to join us on 146.460 and give a call for “any station participating in Radios @ Home”. If you'd like more information, check out the descriptions on the upper right of the web page at queencreekarc.org. Hope to catch you on the air! Take care and stay safe and well! 73, "And may the propagation be ever in your favor!" John (-: KI7PPW ;-)

International Space Station Visible Tonight (6 minutes!)
International Space Station Visible Tonight (6 minutes!) Folks - Good news! Another opportunity to spot the International Space Station this evening as it passes over our area in Arizona. It should be a great pass and hopefully the clouds will be minimal. It will pass about 86 degrees above the horizon! That's just about directly overhead. Treat your family and friends to a viewing of the International Space Station tonight. I find that even the most non-technical family member or friend gets a kick out of seeing the station as it moves across the sky at 17,150 MPH - that's 4.76 miles per second - and about 250 miles above us. If you are an amateur radio operator, take the opportunity to relate how hams can communicate directly with the ISS or through one of its transponders. The ISS will be visible for 7 minutes and should be a good viewing and becomes visible directly from the Northwest and disappears towards the Southeast. Time: Thu May 30 8:23 PM Visible: 6 min Max Height: 86° Appears: 10° above NW (from 315 degrees) Disappears: 17° above SE (toward 135 degrees) I've also attached an illustration that will help you determine how to use this information. You can watch and track the station in advance at this link: https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/view.cfm?country=United_States?ion=Arizona&city=Mesa And, something new! I've attached a chart of the actual pass. Remember, these times are based on a viewing site from the Mesa area (and within 50 miles). If you would like to generate times from your specific city or town, visit this link and follow the instructions. If your specific city or town isn’t listed, pick the closest one: https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/home.cfm The space station is visible for at least a 50 mile (80 km) radius around each of the listed locations. If you are an amateur radio operator, listen in (or work) on these frequencies: Voice and SSTV Downlink: 145.80 (Worldwide) Voice Uplink: 144.49 for ITU Regions 2 and 3 VHF Packet Uplink and Downlink: 145.825 (Worldwide) - easiest to hear UHF Packet Uplink and Downlink: 437.550 UHF/VHF Repeater Uplink: 145.990 (67Hz PL Tone) UHF/VHF Repeater Downlink: 437.800 Regards, Joe N2QOJ

Space Station Visible Tonight (7 minutes!)
CMEs coming! ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Jim KF7E Date: Fri, May 10, 2024 at 12:32 PM Subject: Space Station Visible Tonight (7 minutes!) To: Joe Sammartino <jsammartino@...> Joe: The forecasters at NASA and the NOAA SWPC forecast a 'high probability' of aurora being visible tonight as far south at AZ/TX. (It would be the dull red layers rather than shimmering green). 4 big CMEs are arriving now over the next 24 hrs.
