Announcing Radios At Home Begins May 18th
John, KI7PPW, is our 2024 RAH Host and Administrator. Here is his announcement for this event. (A pdf version of this announcement is attached.) RAH, Radios At Home Season: 2024 As the Arizona summer returns to remind us what the word "hot" means, it's time once again for "Radios At Home" (RAH) to return. Radios At Home was initially introduced when Radios Under Sun Shade was sidelined due to the COVID pandemic that hit the US in 2020. The idea was to keep us all “radio-active” even though we couldn’t get out to the parks due to public area closures and social distancing requirements. These days... Simply stated, it's the same RUSS activities but at home in the comfort of refrigeration (what some of you refer to as air conditioning). It is mostly an individual activity since it is at home but you can certainly invite fellow hams and guests to participate with you. The objective is to continue exercising our stations and skill set on a regular basis despite the Arizona heat (which some of you refer to as inferno). Operating off-grid power is always encouraged. Here are the details for your calendars: ? Who: Any licensed amateur radio operator directly and / or acting as a control station operator for non-hams. ? What: Log as many contacts as possible and please be courteous to others that wish to make contacts and move to another frequency if you are having an extended QSO. ? When: The Third Saturday of every month, May through September, 10:00 to 14:00 hours. ? Where: 146.460 MHz Simplex (T-Encode/Decode 77 Hz optional), 446.000 MHz and at 7.178 MHz LSB for those with HF stations and privileges. ? Why: The objective is to exercise our stations and our simplex skills while operating off- grid if possible, and to make as many contacts as possible while simulating less-than- optimal communications during emergency situations. Care to share your contact information? We encourage those who keep a log of their contacts to email a copy to John KI7PPW at ki7ppw@.... That information can then be accessed either through the Queencreekarc.org web page or from John's QRZ.com page. It can be very enlightening to see who can contact who and how far your station can reach. These logs are still new and suggestions for making them better would be appreciated. Questions or suggestions? Please feel free to contact John KI7PPW at ki7ppw@...

Queen Creek will no longer produce Trunk or Treat.
Please read... With a focus on family friendly events that connect the community, the Town of Queen Creek will no longer produce Trunk or Treat. Last year, the event drew 20,000+ attendees and spanned more than a quarter of a mile with a wide range of activities, making it difficult for friends and neighbors to meet up and socialize. As the Town Center continues to develop, parking options north of Ocotillo Road are becoming more and more limited. In addition, the size and scope of the event required a two-day closure of Ellsworth Road to safely set up and take down. The extended closure resulted in increased traffic congestion in the heart of the community. The event itself was also becoming increasingly expensive to produce - even with scaling back activities and reducing the amount of candy, the event was projected to exceed budgetary constraints for 2024. Thanks to everyone who has made Trunk or Treat possible – from sponsors, vendors, community groups and residents. For more information regarding the announcement, please visit www.QueenCreekAZ.gov/News As the Town continues to focus on community events that provide an opportunity for residents to engage and connect, the Town is excited to announce that the Queen Creek Hometown Christmas Parade will transition from a Chamber of Commerce event to a Town event in 2024 - stay tuned for more details.

Ron Earl, K7RWE - Silent Key 4
Ron Earl, K7RWE - Silent Key It is with deep sadness to announce that our good friend and fellow ham, Ron Earl, passed away last evening. Ron was a long time member and leader in the Queen Creek Emergency Communications Group and very active in our local ham community, He participated in many events hosted by the Queen Creek Amateur Radio Club, The Gathering of the Willing (East Valley QRP Group), and QCECG. Ron gave of his time, his equipment, and fellowship. He was an excellent example of service to his community, his Church, and his God. On a personal note, Ron and his dear wife Colleen, were there for me and my family when we were experiencing a very tough period a few years back. He and Colleen will be forever in our hearts. We will miss you, Ron, but your spirit of goodness and service is everlasting. Please join me in a moment of remembrance of such a good man and prayer for his family.
