William Packwood was born in Rushden, Northamptonshire in 1801. He worked as a tailor but also served as a Baptist pastor in both Wollaston, Northamptonshire and Keysoe, Bedfordshire. He married Mary Colson in Wollaston in 1823. In 1848 he emigrated with his wife and a son, Ebenezer and daughter, Bithiah. His eldest son John remained in Wollaston.
He is buried in?North Street Cemetery, Auburn, Cayuga County, New York. with his wife. Their gravestone clearly states he died on 9th August 1848. However, the ship he arrived on in New York is recorded as having docked on 14th August. So did he actually die a few days before arrival on board? This seems unlikely as there is no note to that effect on the passenger list. Maybe the date of the 9th August is wrong or remembered when the grave was erected perhaps some years later when his wife died in 1880?
Subsequently, his son Ebenezer trained for the Baptist ministry in Rochester, NY. He served as a minister until retirement and died in 1919 in?Clifton Springs, Ontario County, NY.
Any further thoughts are welcome.
