The Opportunity The School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics is one of the largest schools in the University of the South Pacific and is committed to pursue excellence in teaching and research. The school offers a number of Undergraduate programmes in Computing Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics; 2 Professional programmes in ICT (Bachelor of Networks & Security and Bachelor of Software Engineering) accredited by the Australian Computer Society; and 2 accredited Engineering programmes (Electrical & Electronic and Mechanical). The school also offers Postgraduate programmes in Information Technology (namely, Computing Science and Information Systems), Cybersecurity, Mathematics and Physics. The school is now searching for an Assistant Lecturer in Computing Sciences, Information Sciences & Cyber Security who can lead the existing, dynamic team and take the school forward with particular attention to new expanding fields, like Bioinformatics and/or Artificial Intelligence and a range of standard topics in the area of Cybersecurity. USP is a multi-modal university, offering courses in a variety of modes including print, face-to-face, blended and online. The Appointee will be based at the main Laucala campus in Fiji but will teach across all campuses in the region. The appointee will also be expected to teach evening sessions. General Standard An Assistant Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the University, particularly at undergraduate level and to carry out activities to develop their scholarly, research and/or professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. An Assistant Lecturer is expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills, and the ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff. Specific duties required of an Assistant Lecturer?may?include: ·????????? the conduct of tutorials, labs/practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions, and/or studio sessions, ·????????? involvement under guidance of a senior academic, in professional activities like development and production of subject material with appropriate guidance from the subject or course coordinator; preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars; marking and assessment primarily connected with subjects taught; academic counselling and consultation with students; conduct of individual and/or collaborative research; and developing a respectable publications record, ·????????? coordinating a subject or course when skills and experience demonstrate this capacity, ·????????? administrative functions primarily connected with subjects or courses taught, and ·????????? attendance at School/Institute meetings, and/or membership of committees. An Assistant Lecturer will work with support and direction from senior academic staff with an increasing degree of autonomy as the academic gains in skill and experience. Lecturer ·????????? A Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the University and to carry out activities to maintain and develop their scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline. ·????????? ii) A Lecturer is expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff. ? The Person We Seek To be considered for this position, applicants must have: ·????????? a PhD/Masters in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a closely related discipline with a specialisation in Cybersecurity ·????????? tertiary teaching experience (normally 4 years) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. ·????????? experience in supervising Master by research students to completion; ·????????? an excellent communication skill; ·????????? an excellent communication skill; ·????????? experience in distance and flexible learning; and ·????????? demonstrated excellence in teaching in a multicultural environment. ·????????? Meet Quality of Research at equivalent level. Preference will be given to applicants with: ·????????? experience in teaching in developing countries; ·????????? experience in Distance Teaching and multi-modal Learning; ·????????? willingness to undertake research as demonstrated by research publication records; ·????????? willingness to work as a member of a dynamic team and experience in supervising postgraduate/masters research students; ·????????? experience in teaching in a multicultural environment; ·????????? strong evidence of attracting external grants; ·????????? able to demonstrate self-reliant and can work independently and; Enquiries and further information:?
