The Opportunity The School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics is one of the largest schools at The University of the South Pacific and is sufficiently resourced to pursue excellence in teaching and research. The school offers several Undergraduate programs, including 2 accredited engineering programs (Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering), Civil Engineering, Physics, Computer Science/Information Systems, and Mathematics. It also offers Post Graduate study programs. The school seeks to appoint an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics. The appointee will actively contribute to the Discipline of Mathematics and Statistics through planning, teaching, grading, exam preparation, paper moderation, and administrative responsibilities. Additionally, the Assistant Lecturer will provide student support, coordinate undergraduate courses, uphold high standards in both teaching and research. In alignment with the university’s academic goals, the Assistant Lecturer will engage in research activities and publish his/her findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. USP is a multi-modal university, offering courses in a variety of modes including print, face-to-face, blended and online. The Appointee will be based at the main Laucala campus in Fiji but will teach across all campuses in the region. The appointee will also be expected to teach evening sessions. General standard: Assistant Lecturer i) An Assistant Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the University, particularly at undergraduate level and to carry out activities to develop their scholarly, research and/or professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline. ii) An Assistant Lecturer is expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills, and the ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.? The Person we Seek To be considered for this position?An Assistant Lecturer must have; ·????????? a postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in Mathematics and Statistics and/or have equivalent qualifications; ·????????? an excellent written and communication skill; ·????????? experience in distance and flexible learning; and ·????????? demonstrated excellence in teaching in a multi-modal environment. ·????????? Meet Quality of Research at equivalent level.? Preference will be given to applicants with: ·????????? experience in teaching in developing countries; ·????????? experience in Distance Teaching and multi-modal Learning; ·????????? willingness to undertake research as demonstrated by research publication records; ·????????? willingness to work as a member of a dynamic team and experience in supervising postgraduate/masters research students; ·????????? experience in teaching in a multicultural environment; ·????????? strong evidence of attracting external grants; ·????????? able to demonstrate self-reliant and can work independently and; Enquiries and further information:?
