South Pacific Regional Environment Programme

(SPREP)

Vacancy: PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

Applications are invited for the above position with the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in Apia, Samoa.

The successful applicant will assist the Finance Manager in discharging his/her duties, with an emphasis on handling all issues relevant to SPREP project accounts. The key duties include assisting staff queries regarding project reports/budget information; preparation of donors¡¯ financial reports and monthly financial reports; calculating projects administration fees; providing ¡¯ad hoc¡¯ management and financial information and reports; compiling key output reports by strategic outputs; monitoring financial data and reconciliation of donor/projects. Other duties include assistance with general ledger and financial accounts; maintenance of chart of accounts; training and updating staff on the financial system and reporting; and other duties as required from time to time. Applicants should have a University Degree in Accounting, or equivalent qualification and practical accounting experience of at least five years (at a senior level) in a medium or large organisation; experience in spreadsheets and word-processing packages; a good knowledge of and experience with computerised accounting systems, preferably ACCPAC; a proven ability to work as part of an inter-disciplinary and/or multi-cultural team without the need for supervision; a proven ability to prepare proposals and reports to meet deadlines, often under difficult circumstances; and the ability to live and work within Pacific island communities.

The position carries an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free salary (for non-citizens of Samoa), housing, medical, education and other benefits. Appointment will be for three years in the first instance with a possibility of a further three years extension. Maximum duration of appointment is six years.
