VACANCY

The Forum Secretariat was established in 1972 by the South Pacific Forum to
encourage economic and political cooperation between its member countries*,
and between these states and other countries.

PETROLEUM ADVISORY SERVICE - RESEARCH ASSISTANT

The Secretariat is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to
work as Petroleum Advisory Service - Research Assistant in the Trade and
Investment Division.

The Forum Secretariat Petroleum Advisory Service currently makes available a
wide range of services to Forum Island Countries including assistance with
fuel price negotiations, providing data on regional fuel market prices,
shipping costs, logistics and industry standards. We now propose to
increase our capacity to gather detailed demand data and introduce cross
regional cost benchmarking.

The Petroleum Advisory Service - Research Assistant will be responsible to
the Director, Trade and Investment Division through the Petroleum Adviser
and will be accountable for:

· Maintenance of a fuel pricing database requiring regular data input and
information dissemination to member countries;
· Development and maintenance of a regional petroleum demand database
including routinely sourcing statistical information from Forum Island
countries;
· Development and maintenance of a regional fuel cost benchmarking database;
· Data trend analysis;
· Provide other support as required.

Applicants must be self-starting recent university graduates in science,
economics or a related discipline, ideally with some experience in
statistical analysis. Good and concise written communication skills in the
English language are essential. Computer literacy is required, preferably
with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Some travel in the
region may be required.

The position will be available as a one-year contract, renewable for one
year subject to satisfactory performance. The position will be offered at a
full-time salary level of $22,613. Other benefits are available.
