PSC 31 refurbishment

Hello - I am in the middle of refurbishing an 88’ PSC31.
This boat was a hurricane salvage so lots of projects ahead of us. Just finished up with topsides delamination project. Mast step moisture project next. Has anyone rebuilt their mast step? Interested in know what approach they took. Thanks Jay

The mast step on Intuition, our 1990 Pacific Seacraft 31, was rebuily in 2017. There are 3 layers of fiberglass with marine plywood sandwitched between. The layer just beneath the deck layer of fiberglass came out like pulled pork!
See the photo section labeled mast step. We used a hole saw to pentrate the first layer of fiber glass; when we found the pulled pork, we completely removed the top skin and removed all the rotten wood. The second layer of plywood only had a small amount of rot and was easily cleaned out.
The plywood removed was replaced with G5 board and epoxy(so no more plywood directly underneath the mast step - the marina completed the project in about 4 days.

This problem was detecte when stepping the mast and rig tuning.

Thanks for the feedback. I am considering Coosa blue water 26 composite and epoxy. Any opinions on using Coosa to rebuild the mast step?

High density foam: I would touch base with Steve Brodie at the PSC factory - my first instinct would be no - due to compression; their pounds per meter is pretty low compared to density of marine plywood, if my math is correct?
