Reverification process for some listers
Hi all, Looks like IO (host for the PacNW928 group) is double checking some accounts to ensure they aren't listed as a "spam server". Not sure how many folks here got the email, but it's nothing nefarious and if you want to stay on the list, you'll need to finish the re-verification process. Hopefully it's not too difficult :) . Tom Here's the email they sent me just as a FYI: You are receiving this email because you are an owner or moderator of one or more Groups.io groups. We are in the process of reverifying some of our users and we wanted to make sure you knew what was happening and why. For more detail about this, please visit the Reverification FAQ, at /static/reverifyfaq On Saturday January 13th, 2024, an anti-spam service called Spamhaus labeled one of our email servers as a spam sender. This caused any email service that uses Spamhaus to stop accepting email from our server. Because of this, we began a reverification process and sent out reverification emails to a subset of our users on Sunday January 14th. Spamhaus lifted their block on Monday, January 15th, 2024, but we need to continue the reverification process. You can see which, if any, of your users are affected. Go to the Admin section of your group and look at the Members page. Next to each user's email, there may be a badge with the letters RI or RS. RI means the confirmation/reverification is in progress, but has not been completed. RS means the confirmation/reverification has been successfully completed. Here are the next steps in the reverification process: On Sunday, January 28th, group emails to people in the RI state will be disabled. Messages from moderators and login link emails will still work. Until February 11th, people will still be able to reverify themselves and the RI and RS badges will still show up in the Members page. After that, members still in the RI state will be removed from groups. The activity log entry will be Membership - Member Removed, with the added reason of reverification failed. For domains where no reverifications happened, no invites or direct adds will be permitted going forward. If there is a valid person on one of those domains, they should contact [email protected] to have the domain ban lifted. We apologize for the inconvenience this process may cause, but it is necessary to ensure that we are able to continue delivering group email reliably. Thank you for using Groups.io. Best Regards, The Groups.io Team

Wiper arms

Does anyone have a pair of front wiper arms? I mistakenly thought I had some in the myriad of parts I own. Need some by the weekend if possible. I regret not grabbing the ones from the car at the lake stevens junkyard a few weeks ago. Jeff Evans

Any decent LED retrofits for H3 out there?
7
While I realize that the short answer is probably "no," because any attempt to replicate the optics of an incandescent filament with LEDs on a board is inevitably a bit compromised, I know that sometimes one can get lucky and find an LED retrofit that actually works OK in a given lamp if not universally. And so I've been thinking: 1) The driving lights on the S4 are there primarily to provide the flashing function when the headlights are stowed, so there's not much downside to a somewhat-flawed beam pattern (i.e. I'm not convinced they contribute noticeably to the net illumination you get when the high beams are turned on). 2) While looking through the wiring diagrams for something else the other day, I was surprised to discover that the driving lights on the S4 are NOT powered through a relay, but rather all their current goes through the column switch (not just for flashing, which is typical, but also when the high beams are on, despite the current for the high beam filaments within the headlights going through a relay). My first instinct in response to #2 was that I should add a relay, just like I would for an older car that didn't have any headlight relays to begin with. But considered in conjunction with #1, maybe the more elegant means of prolonging the life of the column switch would be to simply replace the driving light bulbs with LEDs! Have any of you tried this, and have you found a solution that doesn't suck? Thanks, Joe

Black hatch with gold tint (iirc) window
If anyone needs a decent rear hatch, I have a spare one here. I think it is an early spoilerless one. Also has a good rear window in it. Going to try and clean out some of the spare 928 parts in the garage, it's getting way too full in here. It's in tacoma. Jeff Evans

A Canadian car (km's) is on PCARMARKET, located in CA. Only 88k miles. Has few strange things - repaint, wiring - pics & comments. Anyone know anything about this car? Kermit green 79 on craigslist (BC- Canada)
Kermit (lt green metallic) 79 OB 5 spd with green interior. Apparently has 300 hp Euro engine installed but also includes original stock 4.5 engine (US/Canada car). Pic looks like the original engine. Rennlist thread said it has had partial repaint. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van/cto/d/burnaby-1979-porsche-speed/7682137323.html They are asking 33k, but given prices recently and the relatively low kms (plus all original stuff) seems decently priced. Not a bargain but decent. Also has a sunroof which is unusual for the OB's. thread on rennlist: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/1171277-introduction-to-me-and-my-79-928-a.html

Portland area meetup?, Brake pad questions
15
Michael B- It would be great to meet up sometime! I was thinking some Portland area meetups would make sense. Ken and I were talking about tinkering with the vacuum line on my automatic transmission. (Shifts hard when coasting in stop and go traffic). Also, I just shot Tom928 an email seeing if he might be interested in getting together for some projects. It would be cool if other Pacnw928 guys could join us, but it may not be practical due to the distance involved. I'm always happy to help people with 928 projects...heck, I don't even care if its a 928. I just enjoy wrenching and learning about mechanical stuff. Probably, the most urgent task on my shark is to swap out the rear brake pads. I've done brakes on Corollas, but never on a 928. Seems pretty straight forward. I'm down to 1-2 mm on those rear pads. When Ken took a peek at the rotors, he thought they might be good for one more set of pads. So I'd hate to score up these rotors by putting the job off too long. (Who knows if the brake pad sensors will work, right??) Pacnw928 guys- I could use some advice on choosing the right brake pads. I've driven a lot of beaters in my life, and the stopping distance of those cars was terrible, so anything I put in the 928 will be better than what I'm used to. I'm not racing, so I don't need to stop that quickly. Also, I don't care that much about dusting. I can't see thru to my calipers and rotors, so dust doesn't bother me. My priorities are a pad that won't eat my rotors quickly, and one that doesn't squeak. Any suggestions? Also, some advice about the best suppliers for 928 brake pads would be appreciated. Thanks! I had a great time. The run back gave me a chance to sort out the mixture on the CIS. I came back up via 101/3 through Shelton. Sunday was an antique car show, so I stayed a while. Ken: stopped at Napa and got some lithium grease. The bonnet now works! And thanks everyone for the help on adjusting the timing belt. Sadly, this was pretty much the last trip for the 928. This weekend I leave for 2 months for sailing. Cheers -- 1992 Porsche 928 GTS Japan market https://benno928.wordpress.com/

Seeking S4 fog/driving light lens
7
I've got a sizeable stone chip in my left fog light lens; anyone have an extra one lying around, or a USA-spec S4 parts car? (Or want to sell me both complete lamp assemblies of a ROW-spec S4 parts car, since fog and driving light positions are reversed on the USA version?) Thanks, Joe
