Benno just posted on Rennlist that Louie has passed (somewhat unexpectedly).? He heard this from Louie's sister who runs Finishline Performance Coatings.?
?
We in the PacNW were so lucky to have him here with his numerous "inventions" for the 928!
?
Such sad news.
?
Time seems to be marching on a little faster these days.
RIP Louie!?? My thoughts go out to Louie's family and esp Chris in the sad time.

Thanks for sharing. He dynoed and burned me a chip for my 6.5 stroker
|
I remember riding with him on the drive at the Calgary event - when he turned on the ethanol and pulled a 'back to the future'.? And lots of chats on San Juan Island. Such talent and skill.?
?
Here's his write-up of the work he did on his 928..
Engine size increase (bore & stroke) from 5.0L to 6.5 L. Built by Devek.
- Devek B1 camshafts.
- 104mm bore, 3.75” stroke. Block work by Devek.
- Rods are Oliver Chevy (can't remember specs)
- 39mm intake valves. Headwork by Devek.
- Compression ratio 10.5:1
- Oil control work by Ott's Performance includes:
- Crank scrapers to strip oil from the rotating crank and shield oil from being fed up the oil drainback holes from the head.
- Oil control screen under the crank to keep oil from hitting the pan and bouncing back into the crank.
- reworked oil pickup and sump cover inside the sump to keep oil from splashing in the sump.
- Re-worked breather system to separate oil from blowby gases and vent blowby to atmosphere and return oil to the sump.
- 3/8" oil sump spacer to lower oil away from the crank. This required a smaller, IMI, gear driven starter. Recently replaced.
- Custom individual throttle intake system designed and built by Ott’s Performance. Uses 50mm TWM Induction components.
- DTA P8Pro engine control computer installed and tuned by Ott’s Performance. Sequential injection. Wasted spark ignition. No distributors.
- J&S Safeguard vampire individual cylinder knock control.
- Bosch 044 fuel pump fed by relay direct from battery.
- 200 proof ethanol injection at WOT.
- 591 SAE corrected rear wheel hp and 510 lb ft rear wheel torque (with alcohol).
- Devek L2 exhaust headers. Ceramic coated.
- Stainless steel dual 3” dia. X crossover exhaust designed and built by Ott’s Performance.
- Oil cooler moved to the rear with auxiliary cooling fan.
- Wider rear fenders designed and built by Ott’s Performance.
- Functional air scoop in the left rear fender to feed cool air to the engine oil cooler.
- Transmission oil cooler built and installed by Ott’s Performance.
- Transmission cooler air fed by scoop inside the rear of the right rear fender. Trans cooler outlet air exits from vents in the rear bumper cover.
- Accusump in rear bumper.
- On board car computer (Windows XP OS) using custom software created by Ott’s Performance to display engine and transmission temperatures, pressures, 8 cyl exhaust gas temperature, and to control oil cooling fan and trans cooling pump.
- Suspension features Hypercoil springs, 600 front, 450 rear. Koni external adjustable shocks. Devek adjustable front sway bar. Ott’s Performance rear sway bar links.
- Wheels are 10” wide front, 12” wide rear x 17”dia. Tires are 245/45 R17 front, 315/35/ R17 rear. 335 tires fit well on the rear if you want. Centers are Kinesis. Right rear rim has curb rash. Rubber is about ? gone in front and rear. The rear tires are track tires so didn't have deep tread when new. Tire wear is even across the tread.
- 928 GP White paint with blue tint by Ty Tibbets in The Dalles, Oregon. Paint is in excellent condition and has "Clear Bra" covering to eliminate chips and scratches.
- Headlights are H4 with bright white LED from Woodypecker.
- Rear seat delete. Roll bar. Many other modifications. Valentine V1 radar detector and laser jammer built in. Everything works. Handling is outstanding.

I remember a bunch of us driving over to his place here in Oregon
in 2007 and he dynoed several cars, including my 81.

Louis was a wonderful person.? Hope Chris is doing OK.? Always was happy and always working (tinkering) on something.? What a mind.? Lots of fun times.??
One of my favorite memories was following him up the roads on the Washington side of the Columbia a number of years ago - driving my 1980 following his White Giant 928 - I used to tease him about the size of the huge tires & wheels on the rear of that GT.??
Hosting us at his house for dyno runs was a blast.??
Riding with him for a couple of sessions in his 1986 S at the "old" Spokane course at one of the first 928 days in Spokane - I was working with him on the line and I remember someone {I think it was Adam(?) - if not, then sorry Adam :-) } who was following
us in their S4 saying "I was catching Louis 3-4 car lengths every lap, then all of a sudden we were equal, then all of a sudden Louis with Keith in the passenger seat was pulling away" - we figured out a way to really get through the terrible death defying
section where you had to cross the track to enter the paddock.....? ? Yup, Louis could drive too!??
It was a special privilege to have known Louis Ott.??
With fond memories,
