timing belt

Adam Birnbaum

Hey Michael,

I'm sorry I don't recall receiving your email. Was this some time ago? I
took your email address off my address book sometime ago because my emails
to you weren't going through. If you have a new address, send it to me so
I can update you on my list.

The belt probably needs to be tensioned at a minimum, or replaced. If you
don't have any record of the T-belt service, I'd have it replaced along
with the water pump.
It's a literal time bomb ticking in your engine if the belt goes on you.

Not trying to be critical, just want some clarification. The first year
for the S4 was 1987. Does your 86.5 (S3) have an S4 engine? The 85 and
86's came with a 32 valve motor, but it is different than the S4 engine.
Just curious.

Its good to hear from you again Michael.

-Adam

Adam, I wrote about the situation with my timing belt, did you receive it,
overveiw, my tension belt light comes on only after the car has been
running quite while and I get it on ,passing full pedal down, and if I pull
over shut it down and restart the light is gone. I am 2nd owner of my car
and don't know if the belt has been replaced, there are 96k on the car and
it's a beauty blk/blk S4 32v auto with big brakes , I guess its refered to
as 86.5
Any ideas, I would appriciae input.
thanks,
michaelg

Hi Adam and Michael,

I think I can figure out what happened. Seems Michaels address was
bounding on this mail list too, so did a bit of checking and realized
that his email domain was incorrect in our records. I corrected it
when I did the first mailing (back when gauging interest in Pac NW
events) and then it appears that this correction got "lost". When I
set up the new PACNW list I used his old domain and hence the bounce.

Figured out what had happened and changed it.

Funny thing, seems a lot of MSN email accounts have this problem
i.e username@... rather than the correct username@....

Anyway, I did not see the original post so send it back out to the
list and Im sure we will comment. ;-).

Later,
Tom
