Proposed TaxSlayer Enhancement - Site Print Set Configuration Page

I will be submitting this enhancement request to TaxSlayer and welcome comments before I do.

I will submit on 28 April 2025.

Thanks in advance.

Enhance print set site configuration to improve preparer and site efficiency:

Include all 12 TaxSlayer default print sets on the Print Set Configuration Page.

Add a checkbox to each line on the Print Set configuration page to suppress the appearance of that Print Set in any print set drop-down selection list. It should be possible to suppress TaxSlayer Default, Relational EFIN subscribed, MSA, and site-specific print sets.

Allow print sets to be displayed in a specified order in the print set drop-down selection lists, instead of the current random order, perhaps using the same user interface design as is used to reorder responses in custom questions.

These changes would allow a preparer to choose from only those print sets used at a site and in an order that makes sense for the site, whether that¡¯s alphabetical, frequency of use, or some other site-specific sort order.

Benefits to Tax-Aide Sites

TaxSlayer added nine default print sets for TY2024. The total of twelve default print sets are just noise and create a significant opportunity for errors in selecting print sets to be used for printing. Enabling suppression of these unneeded print sets reduces the probability that a preparer will select an incorrect print set. This reduces the generation of waste with Taxpayer Personally Identifiable Information.

Sites often use a small number, but more than one, print set. Ordering print sets in the selection list ensures that sites¡¯ common print sets appear at the top of the list, not just the site default print set.

Suppression of subscribed R-EFIN Print Sets allows for responsive removal of unneeded print sets from drop-down selection lists by the site administrator in the event of delays incurred when contacting the R-EFIN¡¯s Point of Contact to unsubscribe the R-EFIN print set. [PA1 has excellent R-EFIN POC's. Maybe other split-states don't.]

Suppression of a site¡¯s own print sets allows for an obsolete site Print Set to be removed from view but remain available in the event reversion to the old Print Set is required.

Steve,

Your proposal, as written, is a great solution to the issues you raised.? The Administrator for a site should be able to select which print sets are presented to the counselors for their site as well as specify the sequence they are presented.??

Excellent!

Hi Steve,
I think this is a great enhancement and I hope it is implemented. The proliferation of print sets over the last few years has proved very confusing to many sites.
This would make management a lot easier.
Thanks,

I agree with everyone comments. Hopefully we could cut down on all the paper that is printed that nobody ever looks at.?

In the future we should think about offering to? email the tax payer a PDF of the taxes and just print what needs to be signed only.?

Steve,

This is a good suggestion that will make TaxSlayer easy to use.

I still cannot reconcile the number of TaxSlayer default print sets as 12.? My sites show 4 TaxSlayer default print sets and either 4 PA1 print sets or 5 D34 print sets. Admittedly, they all show as default print sets that cannot be edited or deleted.

Ray,

They all show when we print from the Submission Page in the E-file section.? That is the only place I see them.? However, that is where we print the returns for the taxpayers.

Hi Folks,

Yes, confirming, there are two places where one can print using a print set; one lists four and the other 12. There are four more places in TaxSlayer where one can print but one cannot select a print set.

  1. (only the four original defaults shown).

  2. of the E-file menu (all 12 shown).

Let me know how/if the links work. Note that the screenshots were taken in the practice lab, hence no PA1 or D22 print sets.

I'm flummoxed over the inclusion of the "two copies" and "three copies" print sets. I would think one could select multiple copies as part of the print dialog. TaxSlayer's acceptance of this request would moot my pendant rant.

I am also grateful for the questions about the number. I'll likely clarify the enhancement request to include this so that a first reviewer of the request doesn't dismiss it out of hand because, "everyone knows there are only four default print sets, gee, look right here." :-)
