Change of ownership?
2
Hi Dennis, I know that we're the only members of this group so far. I've been meaning to email you to acknowledge the change of ownership and moderator status. Thanks! I'll do the best that I can. Were you a crewmember aboard the P-3? I was with VP-91 at Moffett, and for a short time with the VP-MAU. This was from 1981 through 1991. Regards, Guy Lopes

Introduction
Hello!! Firstly, I am going to introduce myself: I am Antonio Diana Blanca, a 23 years old boy who send you this email from Spain, exactly from Jerez de la Frontera. I am a P-3 lover thanks to my father has flown on P-3 Orion for more than 20 years, achieving 8000 hours. He worked as a ESM/MAD and radar operator. Four year ago he was promoted and left to fly. As you can suppose, ever since I was a child my dream was to be a pilot, and if it were possible a P-3 pilot. For it, once I left the secondary school, I prepared the competitive examination to enlist in the Air Force Higher and Half Degree Colleges. At last in the third year, which was the last one I could sit, I passed the first stage of the exams. But in the following one, there was a medical test, a frightful medical test, and I did not get to pass due to a little problem in the sight. Now I am studying Management Computing Technical Engineering, to tell the truth with few wishes. It is such my liking for aviation I hope someday my job is related to this wonderful world, although I have to wipe aircraft. Well then, I hope to enjoy in this list with you and excuse me for mi English, it is not very good. See you soon.

Hi, I'm Rod. I enjoy trying to "catch" P-3's on the scanner. I'm a "technical" type and am fasinated by all the comm and electronic gear on the P-3's. My main interest is with the USN and US Customs P-3's doing drug interdiction work. I love it when the "bad guys" get what's coming to them. I live in the Metro Atlanta, Ga area and get a chance to hear them in and out of Dobbins ARB and the 2 local Lockheed facilities in the area. Hoping to hear some of the Dutch P-3's while they are in maintenance at Greenville, SC, for upgrades. Rod __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sign up for SBC Yahoo! Hi all, I just joined this group. I am a plastic modeLler and aviation enthusiast who lives just west of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I also moderate several groups, F4SForever, RAFBomberCommand and Hercules Fans. I have never served in the armed forces, but am an Associate Life Member of the Tailhook Association. All versions of the Orion have always interested me. I am planning to build a CP-140 Aurora in 1/72nd scale. I look forward to expanding my knowledge of the P-3 through this group. Cheers, Peter Montreuil

Navy P-3 crew locates lost kayaker in Pacific
Navy, Coast Guard Join Forces To Rescue Lost Kayaker > > By Journalist 2nd Class Phil Hasenkamp, Navy Region Hawaii > Public Affairs > > PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- With his cell phone > battery dead, John Stockton knew that his best chance to stay > alive was to be seen, not heard. Keith Demetriades, mission > commander for the VP-9 P-3C Orion. > > But spotting a tiny kayak in a huge ocean is a tall order. > > "I didn't know how to improve my chance for being seen. Some information sources about P-3s, VP and other Naval Aviation
Three great sources about P-3s, Patrol Aviation, Naval Aviation, and some pretty current photos are: vpnavy.com THE source of information; a fantastic site set up for Patrol Squadron members and history buffs. The owner/operator, Nevins Frankel is owed a debt by all for his amazing site which is so helpful for patrol aviation-interested people. http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org4-1.htm Produce by the Naval History Office. http://www.ne.jp/asahi/gonavy/atsugi/index.html Good photos and info about Navy and Marine Corps aviation.

P-3s for India
The following was just posted to another list I subscribe to: "Aerospace Daily 28 Aug 2002 reports that the Indian Ministry of Defense is 'close to clinching a deal' for the sale of an unspecified number of P-3 Orions from the United States. India has a need for 30 more MPA in addition to its five IL-38s and eight TU-142s (the latter are scheduled for upgrading)." FYI. Jeff

Life After Retirement
Well after I retired went back to school and got my BSEE finished off. From there I went into Medical Devices. Spent time designing automated Blood Pressure Monitors, one design was for the Space station, then onto Ventricular Tachicardyia detection and mapping and clinical disruption of paths that caused them. Now working on a automated CPR device that does compressions and operates from a single battery for 30-45 minutes to work in conjuntion with a defibulator. The unit weights in at 25 pounds and we will start trials in San Franciso, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Fremont fire departments in Sept. Did some consulting in PCB layouts for High Frequency Circuits 2-3 GhZ for wireless LANS and CELL/PDA/Other wireless devices extentions to subways, airports, and did the 2002 Olympics buildings in Utah. Got my private pilot ticket in 1985 before I retired and now starting to build my on kit plane, in Nov. 2002 I get my kit. It is a small amphibian, two seater, think it will be fun, flew one in FLA two years ago and fell in love with it. Well back to work, it is great to read all the e-mail---but needs more communications happen so get in here and lets hear from all you guys, what are you doing, how about your families? Talk it up guys!!!
