Can anyone recommend a focus motor?
3
Hi, I have a 20" f/4 classic Obsession with Starlight Feather Touch focuser (with curved base), built in 2020. The focuser seems to have quite a low profile. I was hoping to buy the Rigel Systems nFocus motor as I already have the corresponding nFocus controller that I use with another focus motor / focuser combination. However, I am worried that the gear wheel on the motor has a diameter that is too great and will not fit on the focuser shaft without touching the base of the focuser. Does anyone have a suggestion for a make that will fit and work for my telescope, please? I am happy to have a hand controller and do not necessarily need to connect to and be controlled by my laptop. Cheers, Mike G-H

Tablet stalk recommendation for 18UC?
6
I wanted to get a tablet stalk like this one: https://www.marklessastronomics.com/netbookproduct.html#tabstalk But, alas, Charles says he has closed his business. Anyone have recommendations for a comparable product for my 18UC? Thanks, Rod

Telrad power
In case you want to power your telrad from your scope power rather than internal batteries. I added a 12 volt dc to 3.3 volt dc converter and a DC power connector to power up my telrad. Never have to worry about leaving the Telrad on at the end of the observation session. Richard

Back to an old favorite nebula M1

The Hidden Galaxy
All, My shroud was dripping wet, but I still managed to image the hidden galaxy IC342 with the camera cooled to zero degree C. ServoCAT and Argo Navis tracking was excellent. The Mallincam DS10cTEC mounted on my UC18 was awesome. Post processed with Pixinsight and GIMP. Richard

Problem tracking with ArgoNavis and ServoCat on my 20" f/4
5
Hi, I was using my 20" f/4 Classic Obsession last night and encountered a problem. I was able to perform a two star alignment followed by a successful GOTO from the catalogue, but then I had to keep tapping on the Azimuth (especially) and Altitude buttons in "guide slow" setting on the hand controller to keep the object centered. I am not even sure that without these corrections the mount would have moved at all, but perhaps it was moving but just slower than it should to track the object. I have had some cable snagging issues and wonder if the power cable has become damaged or connections affected over time by this. Last night when I was setting up and moving the mount around while finding the alignment stars the set up bleeped and restarted without warning. The jog buttons work ok in all directions. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going wrong, please? Regards and thanks in advance, Mike

12.5 inch secondary positioning
4
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Carl <carljtj7@...> Date: Fri, Sep 6, 2024 at 10:07 AM Subject: 12.5 inch secondary positioning To: <[email protected]> Unable to situate secondary in relation to focused so as to able to center laser dot on both mirrors AND have all the primary show in my Farpoint. Have tried shimming the focuser and repositioning secondary via loosening central holding bolt. Dave Krieg suggests bending spider vanes. No stomach for that just yet. Page in my manual aftet the attached on secondary was not included, when scope shipped. Any suggestions?

ServoCat no longer wants to “Go To”
5
I have had an 18” Obsession with AN n SC for 10 years. For some reason (aging brain?) SC will no longer go to an object. AN is working correctly, I can use SC hand controller to move the scope in Alt n Az direction, but Go To doesn’t work. Its has a steady green light. Can anyone help me solve this problem ? All, Our Obsessions outfitted with ServoCATs and Argo Navis make for great astrophotography! Here is my old favorite planetary nebula in Cygnus (wow, there are so many planetary nebulas in Cygnus!). Richard

New Owner of Obsession 30"
9
Hi Everyone, After spending several years immersed in astrophotography, I decided to return to my roots in visual observation. To that end, I've just acquired an Obsession 30" telescope, complete with the original ServoCat and Argus systems. The mirror is currently being sent out for stripping and a fresh coating (IAD). Given that the largest Dobsonian I've used before was a 16" Orion, I'm anticipating a whole new experience with this one. I'm planning to add a 21mm Ethos and a 31mm Nagler T5 to my setup. Does anyone have any additional recommendations for eyepieces? Thanks!

West veil mosaic
All, A very large object (like the Western Veil) and poor weather (it's a rainy night in Georgia) might force one to make a mosaic from captured images from more than one night. I used my UC18 and DS10cTEC to capture the frames for this mosaic over two nights and then stitched them together with MS ICE.

SH2-112 is a fun nebula
All, Nebulas really pop when using a dual band filter (I use Optolong LeNhance filter). The contrast of Ha and OIII is great with this type of filter. Here is the nebula a degree west of Deneb. 10 stacks of 20 second exposure. Richard

Ebony Star replacement

I have an Obsession 20” Classic F5 that is experiencing loss/breakage of the Ebony Star strips on the bearings. I know that Ebony Star has been discontinued for production and is NO LONGER available.
