Marion Systems Prosynth 2
If by any chance anyone needs help on how to work with that great real Oberheim synth (way more Oberheim than a Matrix 1000 and other “oberheim” machines of the same era - mine is signed by Mr Oberheim himself, he would never touch a Matrix 1000) and external controllers, I think i’ve figured most nrpn strings correctly for work with BCR 2000 and, also, i have to admit that (the very expensive software editor) Midi Quest works extremelly well with Prosynth (or the Asm of MSR 2). If you don’t know the synth, try to get hold of one. Please don’t take seriously most of the online reviews. Yes it’s not an OB 8 or a Matrix expander, but it’s an excellent Oberheim poly synth with some of the best merits of its ancestors. Apparently Mr. Oberheim himself wanted “more” from that series of Marion synths, but his “less” is way “more” than the average synth user’s demands, if you know what I mean. Some reviewers even admit that they have reviewed faulty machines (there is a serious review based on a machine that has only one working output) and others based their quick assumptions on just the presets, or a bit of onscreen parameter tweeking, and never used an external controller with it. I bet most of them are not Oberheim experts- power users. If these are safe and serious reviews i rest my case. important Tip. Don’t care much about the presets or multi layer mode. Simple (or unison) poly (or even mono) use makes this synth shine. Less is more. Anyways, if i can provide any help, i’ ll do my best.

OB-X firmware
Does anyone have a copy of the OB-X J version firmware? There are three EPROMs labeled J0, J1 and J2 so there should be three binary files. Conversely if anyone had an OB-X running this firmware and was willing to read out the EPROM contents, I'd be most grateful. Cheers, motc

Matrix 1000 Prices 4
Hello folks, I'm working on rebuilding my live performance rack, and one of the things in it is an Oberheim Matrix 1000. First off, why is a monophonic 1u synthesizer going for so much more than the Matrix 6r prices I'm running into? Second, anyone know where I might find one at a reasonable price? I'm not ready to trip the trigger on it right now, but I'm planning for it so I know how much this project is going to beat out of my wallet. Thanks for any direction given. Oberheim Systemizer Programmer? 2
Hello, folks. I'm thinking of reacquiring a Systemizer to manage a keyboard rig (since Enigma isn't talking to my screen reader no matter if I have the scripts for it installed), but with no functional vision programming it with the buttons is beyond a daunting task. Did anyone ever create something to program it using a less restricted interface? I'd like to be able to create programs for it through a computer. So, does something like this exist? Also, has anyone ever encountered an upgraded Systemizer, with the card reader installed and the RAM doubled, like Oberheim outlined in the manual? I've not encountered one, but that doesn't mean they exist somewhere. Thanks for any help y'all can provide This is the first of two questions, but I don't want to pack everything into one message because invariably something gets missed. Kinda quiet here. 16
Hi all: Maybe this newbie can start a new thread. I'm interested to hear what editors Matrix-1000 people are using and like. Years ago I used the Matrix 2001 (for Windows) one and liked the look and way it worked. I'm equally comfortable with Mac, Linux and Windows but would probably like to start with a Mac or Windows one. Seeing ObieEditor, Patch Base, M1000X, etc... but a couple complain about downloading securely? Regards, Michael

OB-Xa unknown MIDI-Interface
Hello everybody I'm still in the process of restoring my OB-Xa. In manual mode it now works perfectly, but as soon as I edit a sound from memory, all kinds of parameters are no longer correct. I suspect the MIDI interface and the 120 program slot expansion. This is what the MIDI interface with the SRAM chip looks like: https://www.florian-anwander.de/oberheim_obxa/OB-Xa-MIDI-interface.JPG The EPROMs on the control board look like this: https://www.florian-anwander.de/oberheim_obxa/OB-Xa-MIDI-interface-EPROM.JPG The memory expansion obviously uses a 6116 SRAM. The original 6514 (IC109 and IC111) have been removed. I have not found a picture of an identical MIDI interface on the web. Do any of you know which manufacturer this MIDI interface is from? Best Regards Florian -- http://www.florian-anwander.de/

OB-Xa, the non-existing Volume VCA... 2
Hello, On the occasion of restoring my OB-Xa (so far every problem could be solved by cleaning the contacts and replacing trimmers), I stumbled across the CA-3080 (IC U7) in the circuit diagram of the voiceboard, which is in fact not equipped on the voiceboard. It is also labeled "omitted" in the service manual. The OTA should regulate a voltage VOLx per voice. The corresponding input can still be seen in the layout on the motherboard, but I cannot find this voltage on the control boards (which is understandable). Does anyone know if there were ever plans to make the OB-Xa velocity-capable? Regards Florian -- http://www.florian-anwander.de/

So, What's Going on? 10
Hey, group, I've been wondering what Oberheim has been up to lately, other than the reissues of the SEM based synths. I haven't heard much of anything about the company in a while. Anyone got any info on recent releases? Or are they not developing anything anymore? Nicole Sent from my HAL 9000 in transit to Jupiter

Items for sale ok? 6
Hi All, I had completely forgotten about this group until I saw some messages come across. I've recently repaired M6r that I'd like to sell since I still have my original M6 keyboard I got in 1985. Are Oberheim for sale items ok in this group? If not - so sorry about that! p.s., repairing the unit was pretty fun actually! I'm an EE by degree but due to living in Michigan and working for the auto companies for a long time, I never really had to do much electronics stuff as a pro. However, after first trying to trace the issue using a schematic for a M1k and figuring that it was in the resonator circuits - the main difference between the M6 and M1k, and then finding downloading a copy of the schematics for the M6r that was actually legible and data a load of data sheets it all started coming back to me - turned out to be a bad timer chip! I'll pop in a socket for the battery and probably upgrade to 2.15 if I can find it before I sell.

Matrix-6 Polyphony 4
Matrix-6 Polyphony When you strike one key on the Matrix-6, you will notice one dot or "period" light up on the display. If you strike two keys, then you should see 2 dots or "periods" on the display. Currently, if I strike one key, then the display shows two dots or "periods". This is literally cutting my polyphony down to three notes instead of 6 notes. Does anyone have an idea of what would cause this? It has effected every patch. I have calibrated and that did not solve the problem.

Matrix 1000 Factory Patches uploaded 3
There are many different sets of M1000 patches and factory patches floating around. Some of you may have noticed that some of the factory sets were incomplete or duplicated. Don Solaris has retrieved and sorted the full sets and those are now available for download. As a bonus, there's also a Reaper reabank set available for the Bank 0 & Bank 1 user locations. [UPDATE] There appears to be confusion about where to access file downloads from. Look to the left, click on Files. That is the storage area on 开云体育 for related file materials. Files hosted there are already divided up into different sections for different models and usage cases, including for the M1000. Inside Files, click on 02_Matrix1000. That is the section which hosts M1000 related files. Inside 02_Matrix1000, click on item 10 which is already labeled as the Don Solaris retrieved set.

OB-8 4
Hi, I live in Baltimore and am wondering if there is an Oberheim expert anywhere in my region. I have an OB8 that works, but has some kind of periodic electrical issue. I used the arpeggio for recording, some low pads, but I have a perfectly working Juno 6 that serves my needs, and now I haven't powered the OB8 up for over 10 years for fear of messing something up. I am interested in selling it but would at least like a diagnosis. Thanks for any help!! Ken Mosher

New users, new challenges 6
Hi Everybody Quite a few new members joined recently so if there is interest in using this group as a base for gear and related discussions it would be useful if we added a few users to help manage things and the group is not reliant on one person in case of absences? There aren't any expectations of having to put in much work, just to deal with occasional approvals of new posters, getting rid of spammers (if any) and so on. Any volunteers? :)

Behringer Voice Chips 17
Hi, New to Group. Being new, I'm interested in SYSEX, WAV or MIDI patches for Matrix 1000, 6, 6R And can share some studio made ones. That said, I can't see earlier messages, but was happy to see this notice: https://www.synthtopia.com/content/2020/07/08/behringer-clones-curtis-cem3396-analog-synth-on-a-chip/ Which means we won't have to buy used Voice chips in the future, one hopes. Maybe the current $40+ price tag can go much lower for a chip? and no fear of the NOS going dead b/c of their age, too. I was about to drop money on a few backups, but will wait for Behringer's batch. Has this been discussed? If so, sorry for the repost! -db

M1000 volume pot replacement 2
One of my M1000's, bought second-hand years ago, had awful crackling on the volume pot. The seller was kind enough to point this out at the time but I was happy to take the unit as it was. It didn't really matter when the volume was set and forgotten about and when I replaced the original backup battery with a coincell holder I decided to replace the crackling volume pot as well. There are things one could try to clean and cure the old potentiometer but at about $4 for a new part I didn't see much point in attempting temporary fixes. This is the part I used, for better or worse, and it seems to work well on my M1000. No crackling, rotates nicely and sounds like new. Remember to do your own parts research and checking, I'm not a synth tech.
