Poem-a-Day Midway Through

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hello everyone! John here:

?

If you¡¯ve been following Poem-a-Day, I hope you¡¯re enjoying my curation so far this month. I would love to know what you think, and whether you found a few poems to cherish.

?

In advancing disability poetry, it was necessary to break some rules, deviate from precedent, and seethe over things they wouldn¡¯t agree to. My curation doubles the number of poets without a book allowed, has a translation by the guest editor (my translation of a Protactile poem by Roberto Cabrera), and is the first time the guest editor also covers the weekend features of poems in the public domain.

?

The following poets and poems have been featured by this point:

?

William Gay: A Sick-Room Idyll

Alice Cornelia Jennings: A Prayer in Signs

Hayley Broadway: Power Out!

Abiola Haroun: Identity Voodoo

Kris Ringman: Oak Skin

Latif Askia Ba: Douglass Pool

Brian Koukol: Necromancy for the Bitter

James Nack: The Music of Beauty

Annie Charlotte Dalton: Marie Bashkirtseff Said

The Cyborg Jillian Weise: Snow Globe of Denver

Simone Person: Awkwafina Clarifies That She¡¯s Appreciating, Not Appropriating

Nazifa Islam: Stability Is a Feeling

Roberto Cabrera: Oregon State Hospital

Jill Khoury: Sleep Hygiene

Isaac Watts: The Sluggard

Mary Toles Peet: To a Bride

Maija Haavisto: Ship/Plum

Frank Gallimore: Parasitoid

?

My heartfelt thanks go to all the living poets who generously let me include their poems. I am grateful to all the dead ones, too, and feel torn between opening their crypts to shake their bones and letting them continue resting in peace.

?

If you haven¡¯t been reading those poems but would like to catch up, the archive is here:
