Happy New Year to OG/Ped neighbors

Hope everyone is doing well during these dreary days of winter. We are up to 42 folks on our new list! Let me know if there are other neighbors that would like to be added. Jeff Rosenbloom 5689 Oak Grove Ave.

Pandemic help - seeking backyard
2
Dear neighbor-friends, By now most of you know me, but introductions are always useful! I've been an OG resident for nearly 10 years now. I'm a pediatric pain psychologist and treat kids living with all manner of chronic pain. Covid has been particularly rough on this population, as they've been cut off from their treatment teams, friends, hobbies, and coping tools. I've been treating these kids virtually via zoom for approx 10 months. As you might imagine, it's been pretty terrible. They loathe it and I'm finding it nearly impossible to provide effective care. As an essential service provider, I am now seeing patients in person, outdoors, at a distance, and masked. I've been using a neighbor's empty backyard, but someone reported me as a "trespasser" (despite my having explicit permission to use the space). My kids and I are now in a pickle, and are desperately seeking a backyard to use for a few hours in the afternoon M-Thurs. I would gladly rotate yards if we could find more than one. It's definitely tricky b/c we require privacy, but a neighbor's backyard is more private than any public park. I realize that this is an unusual request, but strange times call for strange emails. I'd appreciate any and all leads, particularly if you know of any empty yards, folks who are out of town from whom I could get permission, etc. Wishing you all best and thank you, Rachel Zoffness zoffness.com

still more paper grocery bags needed... again!
3
Dear Neighbors, I’m asking you again for any extra paper grocery bags you may have. While we still have a lot left over from our last materials distribution in the Fall, it’s not enough for the whole school, and we have fresh curriculum materials and FREE BOOKS that I got through a grant from the Oakland Literacy Coalition to distribute to every student. Families are going to come to the school on Friday, January 22nd, and we’re going to start assembling the bags on Tuesday, January 19th. Please drop them off on my porch or give me a call if you’d like me to come pick them up from your porch. Thank you! Jen Vetter (the librarian at Emerson Elementary, Oakland) 5672 Oak Grove Ave cell 510 517 3186 P.S. No plastic bags, please.

Fundraiser for Urban Cleanup
Greetings neighbors, After reading a December profile on Urban Park Cleanup, a volunteer organization cleaning up Oakland's streets, I donated to its first fundraising stage. Now that it's growing and they need a truck, they've raised their goals. It's incredible dismaying to witness the exponential illegal dumping and heartening to see someone do it, because the organizer didn't want children growing up in the same conditions he did. Here are links to help you decide if this is a cause you feel is worth supporting. If you do, please spread the word as well. Dear neighbors, This is my first post. Hoping this works. Do any of you own or know who may own a Toyota sedan with Colorado plates and storage unit on top parked on Oak Grove across from Pedestrian Way? It has not moved in weeks. Regards, Emma

Parking Enforcement Begins MONDAY
HI, Neighbors, In case you missed the announcement, the City of Oakland will begin enforcing residential parking permit requirements starting tomorrow, Monday, February 1st. This is good news for those of us who have permits. Not so good for our friends, visitors, contractors, and all those Trader Joe’s shoppers. I found this notice on the City website: https://www.oaklandca.gov/news/2021/city-of-oakland-to-resume-residential-permit-parking-rpp-enforcement-effective-february-1 Also, I noticed today that the barriers on Colby were gone Sunday and cars were turning onto the street from Claremont. Any word that this “Slow Streets” closure is being discontinued? Be safe, and look both ways! Chuck@5632

Thank you for helping me win my race!
5
Hey Oak Grovers! The results are in and I won my race to be a delegate to the California Democratic Party for the 15th Assembly District! I could not have done it without your support and good wishes. Thanks for fighting your way through the bureaucracy and filling out the little bubbles in my favor. I was running in solidarity with a group of progressive, labor-focused Dems--we called ourselves the Progressive Labor Slate, because we're super creative--and all 14 of us won! Thank you again for your votes and for letting your friends and neighbors know about my candidacy. I'm excited to do the work of steering the Party in a more progressive direction and increasing our base of support. Onwards! Zac

Electrician Recommendation?

Hello Neighbors, Does anyone here have an electrician they can recommend to us for some small household type projects? Nothing really involved, just replacing outlets and that sort of thing. Thanks! Duncan, Heather & Gus 5670 OG

guy ringing doorbells - 7:30pm

A man in a gray shirt and a dark baseball cap just rang our doorbell and then hid out of sight, just beside the door on our porch, when Paul went to look out the window in the door to see who it was. When Paul asked what he was doing, he asked to use the phone. Be careful, friends, and don’t open the door if you don’t see anyone — or someone you know. Jen Vetter 5672 Oak Grove
