Re: Request for future T&T Topic: Pets
Hi Fred, I'll look into it. 73, Dennis Tiu KN6IPE On Fri, Jul 2, 2021, 9:07 AM Fred <fvoltmer@...> wrote: Many Ocean Colony residents have pets. Would be great to get some tips on what to do and not do with pets in the event of an emergency. --

T&T: Kids
You may encounter a child in need of your assistance during an emergency.? I suggest the following:
1.? Sit/take a knee/crouch down so that you are at eye level. 2.? Shield the child from the gore. 3.? Use simple words. 4.? Know that a child will act "younger" when stressed. -- Dennis Tiu KN6IPE CERT Neighborhood Lead |

T&T: Emergency Supplies
Brought to you by WingedFoot2101, Paul:
? ?-The old guideline suggested that you stock 1 quart of water per person per
??? day, but this is pretty skimpy.? Better to make it 2 quarts per day.
?? -Don't forget to stock water (and food) for your pets too.
?? -In a serious emergency, remember that your family may be instructed to
??? "shelter in place" rather than evacuating your home.
?? -In emergencies, a headlamp is often more useful than a flashlight--it keeps
??? both your hands free for other tasks.

T&T: Walkie-talkies
Brought to you by WingedFoot2101, Paul:
? ?-First key the mic, then talk!? Otherwise, your first words may get lost
??? or not be understood.
?? -Try to keep the little antenna on your WT pointed in the vertical
??? position.? Others will hear you better this way.
?? -During our regular nets, when you have finished talking, say "Back to
??? Net." which returns control of the channel back to the Net Control
??? operator.
?? -During an actual emergency, you can always "take control" of the
??? frequency to transmit a message that involves a threat to human
??? life.? Say "This is (your callsign) with EMERGENCY traffic."

Re: EVAC Drill on July 31, Saturday, at 3:00PM
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Dennis? Thanks for the info. Just wondering if there was consideration given to holding the drill on a weekday evening?? Between travel, social activities, home/garden projects, etc., the weekends are a busy time.? I realize there are a lot of factors and we have diverse schedules in our group. And finding a time that works for everybody is a challenge.? Thank you for your consideration Thanks Steve Steve Hurlbut 720-560-3298 . Please excuse any Typos.? EVAC Drill on July 31, Saturday, at 3:00PM
SAVE THE DATE:? 7/31/21!
We will be conducting our 2nd drill for the year and it will be an Evacuation Drill (EVAC Drill). Before we are activated, a local alert would have already been issued using the Emergency Alert System.? That's when we turn our WTs on and get ready to be activated.? Wait for Net Control to issue an activation announcement and instructions. We will need to go door-to-door and tell our neighbors that we have to leave by a certain date and time because of a pending catastrophe. Of course, we will not knock on doors. Instead, we will be at the streets in front of homes for 3 mins at a time until we are done. For the most part, it should be a typical stroll along the neighborhood. ?
The goal is to gather status reports of each household in Ocean Colony: evacuating/staying/no-response (E/S/N). Expect most of the residents to either be preparing to evacuate or have already evacuated.? The crucial information is WHO WILL BE STAYING.? We then report our data to CERT Rally Point and up to the DOC. WTs will be used to relay any problems encountered or progress reports.?
?
Can we accomplish this mission? If so, how long will it actually take? Do we have enough volunteers to do this now? How are we going to handle sub-neighborhoods without CERT volunteers?? Let's find out together.? Let's get this done.
-- BACKGROUND: The last evacuation effort when CERT was activated was during the Debris Flow Evacuation following the CZU Fire.? CERT volunteers knocked on every door and distributed/posted evacuation flyers to everyone in the area.? Here is an article covering the event: WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Make sure your WT is fully charged and ready. CERT ICS Form 214 was used.? All volunteers should have this form handy and document which addresses you have visited and the status of the residents (E/S/N).? The forms will be collected at the end of the Drill.? The form can be downloaded here: http://www.cert-la.com/downloads/forms/ICS-214.pdf Questions/comments/concerns are welcome and can be presented by replying to this thread. T&T: What should you say
When you encounter an injured individual, here's a few things you can say:
1.? Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] (share names). 2.? Looks like you need help (or what do you need)? 3.? Can I help you? 4.? What happened? You must respect the individual's answer to the question "Can I help you?".? If they say "no" or "go away", note the person's name/location and move on. If the person is not responding or cannot seem to speak coherently, you can help them. -- Dennis Tiu KN6IPE CERT Neighborhood Lead |

T&T: What should be in your GO-BAG
Tips and Tricks:
You GO-BAG should have at least the following items: 1.? trauma dressing (Israeli) 2.? s-rolled gauze 3.? tourniquet 4.? trauma shears 5.? gloves (non-latex) 6.? blanket (space/milar) 7.? bag to contain all of this Here's a good example: Having a kit in your CERT GO-BAG and another in your car would be ideal. -- Dennis Tiu KN6IPE CERT Neighborhood Lead |
