Sidewalk Astronomy in Perth (and Almonte)

I was also thinking that tomorrow (Tuesday) might be a good night for Almonte as discussed earlier. If I can, and if the weather holds, will try to join you in Perth tonight. And also if conditions are right will try for Almonte on Tuesday. Cheers - Al |

For me the start of the week isn't great (Tuesday is right out), but I will try and make it out Saturday to help with the Cadets at Mike's (and I will bring the forbidden fruit eyepiece that Roland has mentioned to me a few times - I *almost* feel guilty for having let him look through it once...). If the weather cooperates, naturally. And if the weather forecast is wrong for later on in the week, Thursday and Friday have potential for me. And if the weather forecast is right (i.e. bad) then I always have Burnham's to read :-). Rob Al Seaman wrote: Mike Wirths wrote:might be |

I'm free this week, so I could also join you tomorrow (Tues.) with my SCT-8", for some sidewalk astronomy in Almonte, if the weather holds out ok. I think you said you'd set yourself up at the public library over there. Would it be in that same location this time? We would probably have to focus on Jupiter and Saturn as the past full moon would only come up later in the evening. So, if the choice of location did have some kind of low Western view, that'd probalby be helpful. Also, if it's a "GO", you maybe might want to post a few more directions, for us Almonte neophytes. Hoping to see you tonite or tomorrow, Al, under clear skies... Photons Rule! ;-) Roland |

You other OAFs should'a seen this guy approach me with his 31mm termi-Nagler eyepiece and that casual, cheerful, evil glint in his eye. "Give it a try... just one look, Roland... what can it hurt?" Worse than a snake in an apple tree. "*Almost*" indeed! I should sue... ;-) And if the weather forecast is right (i.e. bad) then I always haveYeah, I've had Burnham's for a couple of years now. Very poetic stuff and still quite interesting. The stellar data is a bit off in some cases due to the epoch, but much of the info on galaxies, nebulas, etc. is just as valid. Also, I find some of the lore interesting as well. Until (hopefully) later this week, Rol |

The library is best from the point of view of capturing evening visitors, but the western horizon is a bit obstructed. I will have to do a bit further scouting to see if it is still OK for the planets, and if not find a suitable alternate location. Also, if it's a "GO", you maybe might want to post a few moreWill certainly provide more details as soon as time and location is firm. Fortunately, Almonte is not that complicated once you get to the town. Cheers - Al |
