Just some food for thought

Public Astronomy sessions are a great way to introduce new people to
our hobby - to this I agree with all my heart. Personally my hobby is
astronomy (astro photography) not sidewalk astronomy. Anything and
everything in moderation, not following this motto is what I think
caused the greatest amount of stress with the other Ottawa group. I
hope this does not happen with us.

Good morning Mike!

I don't believe that it is our intention to be a dedicated sidewalk astronomy group. I know that this wouldn't do it for me. I like sidewald astro., but nothing compares with a REAL dark site, viewing the faint fuzzies with friends or doing a bit of astro photography (I have yet to move beyond piggyback- what a chicken!). I guess what I am trying to say is that we are trying just to have fun. All "members" are really just a group of friends who share a hobby, and you are right that certain people's need to have more structure in the other group led to the OAFs. You will see this as time goes on....no tee-shirts, no posters, no balloons, etc. etc. I will be very happy to share astro-photos with you this summer, and hopefully learn some tricks from you.

For sidewalk stuff, zero interest is exactly as perfect as 3+/month.
The purpose, I believe, is for each to do whatever astronomy's ok for
you, and perhaps to share whatever that is with friends from time to
time. Relaxed, easy, natural...

For example, if you asked me how often I'd like "to observe" per
month, I would either say: "6 or more times per month" or even "as
much as the weather permits". That's what my observing logbook
reflects.

If some of us, from time to time, use a poll as a means to have a
conversation with others, about choice of restaurants, eyepieces, or
sidewalk astronomy, you can treat it for what it is - just a
conversation.

Have you ever seen or heard a Photon and enjoyed it? That's all
that's required here, isn't it... You're among astro-amigos who are
glad you're here.

So...
I like astro-photography too. When do we get to do some of that? ;-)
