Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
I'm currently near Sherbrooke and it hasn't gotten crazy yet. Found a parking lot we're going to stay at for the night.? -Richard? On Sun, Apr 7, 2024, 19:45 yeldahtron <keith_hadley@...> wrote: While we're on the topic of prepping, firearms anyone? |
Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
I am worried for the world's worst traffic jam ever in the Montreal Sherbrook corridor (as well as 50 to 100 km buffer). Is it really worth it to go there?? Perhaos we need traffic prediction based on current airport congestion..

Cornwall border crossing into and back from US might be sweetspot for low crowds. Drive Eastward to Burlington Monpelier if needed. Marco

This clear sky chart is only 3km from Rockport:

Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
My plan A was Rockport because of the 3+ minutes for totality and relative close driving distance.? Still hoping to see better odds Monday morning.? Looks like there is low humidity in the upper atmosphere and the clouds in the models seem to dissipate but I am not a gambling man :).

Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
Mother Earth is such a tease! Today's weather tomorrow would be great!?
I was initially planning to watch totality from a dead-end street near a truck weigh station on the 401 in Gananoque, a short drive from home with an easy in-and-out, avoiding popular spots in town and major highways.? That plan is no longer viable. My Plan B since Thursday has been: go to Granby, QC and onward to Magog or Sherbrooke, if need be. I'm worried I am not alone.? If everyone in Ontario and Northern NY is heading to the Eastern Townships tomorrow, life could get very interesting very quickly -- especially since there are only a few bridges crossing the St. Lawrence, and there are not a lot of roads on the south shore of Quebec.? I'm prepping. I'll depart with a full tank of gas (600 km of reach), but I'm bringing 20 extra litres (+300 km of reach) to avoid gas stations. I'm bringing lunch and dinner to avoid restaurants and fast-food outlets.? If things go south after that, I figure I can consume spouse for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Tuesday. (Perhaps there'll be leftovers on Wednesday. I could make soup for Thursday.? Don't judge me: she has the same plan.) I'm brining 4 litres of water (2 l/person).? If I were a real prepper, I would also bring at least 2 l/person of empty bottles. I'm bringing sleeping bags, in case we have to sleep in the car. I have my GPS, but I've downloaded offline copies of maps of the South Shore onto my phone.? I'm bringing cash. If all goes well, I'll need none of that stuff, and will be home Monday night. |

Hey Marco, Funny you mentioned Malone as my original plan was to go there and fly fish hoping I catch a monster trout when it goes dark fooling them to come out from hiding. Looks like a thin layer of clouds there and Cornwall.? Cheers, Albert On Sun, Apr 7, 2024, 11:41?AM Marco Vanderkooij <marcovanderkooij@...> wrote: Hi,? |

I think just across the border in the US (Malone, perhaps Burlington if needed) might be an alternative for the following reason: Avoid huge crowds descending from Montreal and N America. And in particular the return home towards Montreal area. Marco

Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
Things are looking grim except for the Eastern Townships in Quebec.? I figure a 2 hour 36 min drive to a spot between Granby and Bromont QC is the closest from Ottawa.? I determined this bouncing around with Attilla's fabulous clear sky clock 9which?used to govern my life from the early 2000's to 2007).? ? Two questions:? obviously?asking if there is a closer destination?? and will the sky clock accept long and lat? Cheers, Albert. On Sat, Apr 6, 2024 at 6:02?PM InQ <inq@...> wrote:
