those who need the rapid fire multiple shot of 5 frames per second. Sports and other press photographers. Personally I wouldn't want my backup to be a step down in quality or I would find myself uninclined to use it. I wouldn't mind if the backup didn't have frills, but if the basic image was of a lesser quality, I don't think I would like that dynamic. I'm getting my D1x today supposedly, so I'm speaking without actually having used the camera yet.
