Rabbi Schmelke interperted the saying in Pirkei Avot: Rabbi Yehudah ha-Nasi said: 'Which is the right course that a man should choose for himself? That which he feels to be honorable to himself, and which also brings him honor from mankind.'

"Nevertheless, he must not believe that this is the only correct course. He must be prepared to admit that there may be other ways in which other men may take pride and feel to be honorable."
