The Upright Sheaf

The Gerer Rabbi said: "The twelve months are the same in number as the sons of Jacob; each month is a symbol of one the the tribes. The month of Adar represents Joseph, and inasmuch as two tribes are descended from him, we have two months of Adar in leap years. Haman held the same position as Joseph, but when he wished to annihilate the Jews in the month of Joseph, the latter's dream was fulfilled; 'my sheaf arose and also remained standing upright' (genesis 37:7).
