For the sake of Certainty
Rabbi Hayyinm Tzernovitzer, the author of "Siddurah shel Shabbat," narrates the following parable: "A king wished to visit an outlying town and wrote its officials to prepare for him and his retinue. The inhabitants spoke a dialect unlike the cultured speech of the capital city, and did not comprehend clearly the royal instructions. A discussion ensued among the leaders, and many explanations were offered. A sage advised them to follow all the explanations of the message, and they did so. When the king saw the abundance prepared in his honor, he inquired the reason. The reply pleased him greatly. In the same way, if we do not understand a commandment clearly, we shoul dobey it according to all the explanations."
