Magnesite crystal

The magnesite stone is known as a brain stone. I think it really has a "brainy" look about it, do you see the resemblance? (See attached flyer)
The name, magnesite, comes from its mineral content of magnesium which is important for neuronal plasticity which impacts on learning and memory.

The Altar in Our Heart

Said the Besht: "The Torah commands us: 'Fire shall be kept burning upon the altar continually; it shall not go out' (Leviticus 6:6). Our heart is the altar. In every occupation let a spark of the holy fire remain within you, so that you may fan it into a flame."

Fire Safety Tips to Stay Safe this Summer

er

?????
Thank you for supporting the work of the CHAYA MALKA BURN FOUNDATION HELPING?BURN PATIENTS RECOVER AND THRIVE.

Your help?is VERY?precious.?
Fire Safety Tips To Stay Safe this Summer

Warm weather calls for a summer of fun activities, from busy barbecues to bonfires.?But, are you aware of?the safety steps you can take to keep safe this summer? Most fire hazards can be reduced or stopped just by having awareness and making small but significant changes in behaviour. We want to make sure you feel safe during the summertime, so we have put together a guide to help you remain aware and in control.
?

CAMPFIRES

Fields of grass can become extremely dry in the hotter months, and with outdoor events such as barbecues, there is a chance that fire could spread easily.

If you are starting a campfire in an outdoor area, you need to ensure that you know how to put out a fire. The safest way to do this is to douse the fire with water immediately. Make sure you pack the appropriate tools, such as a bucket for water when you stay at a?campsite.

Choose a safe location that is away from overly grassy areas, overhanging trees or anything in your immediate environment that could ignite?a fire. By digging a foot deep hole surrounded by rocks, you can get your fire started in the safest way possible.

Always ignite small twigs, leaves or dry grass?with a match or lighter ¨C do not use gasoline to start a campfire. Someone must always be present while burning a bonfire even when it is smouldering.

BARBECUES

Whether it be in your family garden or on a camping holiday, you should always barbecue safely and responsibly.

Depending on the type of barbecue you are planning to use, different safety measures are suggested. Whichever barbecue you use, ensure that it is in good working condition to prevent the risk of fire. Never use flammable liquids to light a barbecue and?only use barbecues?in safe areas away from fences, sheds and anything that could catch fire.

CHARCOAL BARBECUES

Official charcoal starter fluid is necessary if you are using a charcoal barbecue. Charcoal barbecues need to be on a flat surface ¨C without too much charcoal on the grill ¨C since it could tip and start a fire on the floor. After you have finished with your charcoal, make sure it is totally cold.?

GAS BARBECUES

Before using a gas barbecue, you need to properly check for propane leaks. When storing gas cylinders, you must keep them safely away from direct sunlight and icy conditions. When you are finished with using it, you need to turn the gas supply off and then the barbecue to prevent any leaks.

ELECTRICAL FIRES

Did you know that electrical fires are most common during the summertime, especially in unexpected heatwaves? When it gets too hot, especially in working environments and at home, we tend to bring the fans and air conditioner units out to cool down. However, if you¡¯re not careful, there¡¯s a chance you can cause electrical fires due to overloading plug sockets or unsafe appliances.

If sockets, adapters or extension leads are overloaded, they can overheat and potentially cause a fire. You should always check the condition of your cooling devices before use, keeping an eye out for general wear and tear or loose cables.

NATURAL FIRES

Summer can be one of the most dangerous seasons for?fire-related injuries. With the sunny weather conditions, we are subject to more lightning strikes, which are at their peak in the summer months. Drier weather conditions and high temperatures create high risk of fire.?

To prevent fire caused by lightning strikes, you need to maintain your lawn, trees and bushes around your property.

Keeping gutters clear and tidy will also help reduce the risk of debris catching fire.

3 Burn Patients Need Urgent Help

We are now helping?15 year old Galit Karni.?She?needs more trauma therapy ASAP ($100/session/week).

Mendy is now 14. His injuries of 60% burns on his upper body at age 7 contribute to daily challenges with his self-image. Mendy needs another operation in Shriner Burn Hospital in Cincinnati to relieve scarring and contractions of the skin that severely constrict his movement. The Pollacks need help to pay for three airline tickets to Cincinnati which cost about $1000 each. They will be traveling in three to four months. ( I was recently speaking to Mrs. Pollak. She told me of the tremendous gratitude her family has to the donors who contributed to the purchase of a special machine last October that?makes hot water: two hours of boiling water, that fills Mendy's daily baths, combating infections and giving him a bit of relaxation).

Nissim (2 years old) has been?in?the hospital for 6 weeks (2 skin grafts). He is now at a rehabilitation hospital for children in Jerusalem (Alyn). He?needs money for creams (1 container which lasts for about a week costs $60)?and soon he will also need pressure garments.?

Day 111 ¨C Between Teachers and Students
?
Loshon hora initiated by children and accepted as fact by their believing parents is often a cause of major injustice. It happens all too often that one or two key students in a class arbitrarily take a disliking to their teacher and stories are exaggerated and circulated. Well-meaning parents accept their children¡¯s accounts of the going-on at school and before long the teacher finds himself struggling to defend his position.
?
As every adult knows, student dissatisfaction is not necessarily an indication of a teacher¡¯s inadequacy as an educator. The students¡¯ version of a situation must be considered but not accepted as fact. A thorough and discreet investigation ¨C one which does not cause the teacher embarrassment ¨C must be conducted before a teacher is declared at fault.
?
A teacher too, must avoid believing accusations directed by students against one another. Here, too, an investigation is called for, and unless the facts can be established, no action should be taken.

Meriting the Light
?
The Torah states: ¡°... and they [the judges] shall judge the people with righteous judgment¡± (Devarim?16:18). Midrash Tanchuma comments:
?
R¡¯ Yehudah ben R¡¯ Shalom said: [This teaches] that the judges should strive to find merit for their people before the Holy One, Blessed is He. From whom do we learn this? From Gidon ben Yoash. In his days, Israel was in distress and God sought someone who could speak their merit [and thereby arouse Divine compassion for them] but no one could be found, for the generation was poor in its fulfillment of mitzvos and performance of good deeds. As soon as Gidon was deemed worthy of having found merit for them, a Heavenly angel revealed himself to him. Thus it is written, ¡°And an angel of Hashem appeared to him ... and he said, ¡®Go with this strength of yours¡¯ ¡± (Shoftim?6:12-14), meaning, ¡°with the strength of the merit which you found for My children.¡¯¡¯
?
This, then, is the meaning of ¡°... and they [the judges] shall judge the people with righteous judgment,¡¯¡¯ i.e. that they should strive to find merit for the generation.
?
The above, too, underscores the greatness of finding merit for the Jewish people before Hashem. One who does so becomes a receptacle for the spiritual light of the sacred Heavenly sanctuary which is called the Sanctuary of Merit; for it is there that the merits of Israel are mentioned, as stated in Sefer Chareidim.

Day 109 ¨C Prefatory Remarks
?
We have seen that a derogatory statement about someone is not to be believed as fact even for a constructive purpose. One is to take the necessary precautions without changing his attitude towards the subject.
?
We have also learned that to cause another Jew to transgress is to violate the prohibition, ¡°Before a blind person do not place a stumbling block.¡±
?
Consequently, when one relates negative information for a constructive purpose, he must be careful not to cause the listener to sin by believing the information as fact.
?
The proper way to convey negative information for a constructive purpose is to preface it with a statement such as, ¡°Don¡¯t take my word for it ¨C I may be mistaken ¨C but do take the matter under serious consideration¡±.

Measure for Measure
?
Scripture relates how the prophet Eliyahu was forced to hide in a cave to escape the designs of the wicked King Achav and his queen, Izevel. When God appeared to Eliyahu in a vision, the prophet said: ¡°I have been exceedingly zealous for HASHEM, the God of Legions, for the Children of Israel have abandoned Your covenant ...¡¯¡¯ (I Melachim 19:10). It was because of this indictment of his people that the role of transmitting the Divine word to the generation was transferred from Eliyahu to his disciple Elisha (Yalkut Shimoni 217).
?
Years later, when Elisha prophesied the end of a famine, an officer of the king declared, ¡°Behold! If HASHEM makes windows in the heavens, can such a thing be?¡¯¡¯ (II Melachim 7:2). The Midrash (cited by Sefer Charedim 47:23) understands the officer¡¯s words as meaning: ¡°Surely it is within God¡¯s power to bring this about. However, the generation is like the generation of the Flood, regarding which it is written, ¡®And the windows of heaven were opened¡¯ (Bereishis 7:11). How can it be that a generation so wicked should merit a miracle so great?¡¯¡¯ Because he spoke this way of the Jewish people, the officer was told by Elisha, ¡°You will yet see the miracle occur, but you will not eat from the food that will result from it.¡¯¡¯
SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM

Day 110 ¨C Expressing Frustration
?
We have learned that speaking negatively for the sake of one¡¯s own emotional well-being is an acceptable form of constructive speech. It is reasonable for one to express anger and frustration about an individual to one¡¯s parent, spouse or mentor to obtain sympathy, reassurance and advice, and it is the obligation of the listener to provide such support.
?
However, even in such situations, the listener may not decide in his own mind that the report is true, for as far as he is concerned, the information is only secondhand. It is therefore imperative that the following understanding exist between those who take part in such discussions:
?
Halacha permits one to occasionally ¡°let off steam¡± and express his frustrations to someone else. However, it is obvious that one who is involved in a disagreement to the point of anger, or considers himself the victim of verbal abuse, lacks the ability to be objective. Any negativity expressed under such circumstances is to be understood as a description of the speaker¡¯s feelings and not as an accurate account of what actually took place.
?
In this way, a husband and wife or close friends can rely on one another for emotional support without transgressing the laws of proper speech.
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
A Heartfelt Plea
?
Tanna D¡¯Vei Eliyahu (I, ch. 19) states:
?
Master of the Universe! Take note of our suffering ... and allow the disgrace which we endure at every hour to rise up before You. Remember the many heads of families among Israel who have no livelihood, yet toil in Torah each day, continually. Remember the many poor among Israel, who have their flesh torn from their bodies by the nations of the world [through taxes and other monetary demands], yet toil in Torah each day, continually. Remember the youth among Israel who know not their right from their left [i.e. who are pure and unsullied by sin ¡ª Yeshuos Yaakov], and toil in Torah each day, continually. Remember the many aged men and women among Israel, who arise early to enter the houses of prayer and Torah study, and who yearn, crave and hope each day for Your salvation.
?
My Father in Heaven! Remember the covenant which You established with the three righteous Patriarchs, Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov. And you have written in Your Torah, ¡°And if your brother will become impoverished ... you shall strengthen him¡± (Vayikra 25:35) [so, too, strengthen us so that we will not falter].
?
My Father in Heaven! Remember the many crippled and blind among Israel who do not have sufficient food, yet hire teachers to study Torah with their children.
?
My Father in Heaven! Remember Israel, Your possession in this world, as it is written, ¡°Is He not your Father, your Possessor?¡¯¡¯ (Devarim 32:6); and ¡°Hashem acquired me at the beginning of His way¡± (Mishlei?8:22).
?
My Father in Heaven! Remember the many widows and orphans among Israel, who toil in Torah and mitzvos each day, continually.
?
The above should inspire each of us to arouse compassion before Hashem on behalf of the Jewish people, for in our day, the sources of merit cited in Tanna D¡¯Vei Eliyahu are still to be found. The material status of the Jewish people in our time is far from good; yet wherever one turns, he finds Jews who study Torah, observe mitzvos, support Torah study, do kindness with others and give charity to the poor.

Exit and Entrance

Said Rabbi Bunam: "The Talmud teaches us to walk into the synagogue the width of two entrances in order that we may pray; not to stand near the door (Berachot 8). This means that we should first open our heart in order that the spirit of worldliness may make its exit; then we must open our heart again to give entrance to the spirit of holiness. After this, we may pray properly."

Movie Matinee

With great pleasure, I announce the next Movie Matinee at Beit Knesset Hanassi. The film is ¡°Remember¡±. Zev, suffering from dementia in a New York nursing home, learns that the SS guard who killed his family in Auschwitz is alive. Determined to avenge the murders, Zev sets off on the cross-country mission. Facing impossible challenges along the way, he will not be deterred. Justice will not be denied.

Although the film is fictional, most significantly it includes a real-life, little-known, extremely interesting Holocaust situation. This will be explained and expounded upon after the screening.

This award-winning, edge-of-your-seat drama would have thrilled Hitchcock. It stars two superb actors¡ªMartin Landau and Christopher Plummer. The movie has been loved by audiences! You will be thinking about long after seeing it.

The Movie Matinee is on July 18 at 2:00. The film is in English with English subtitles. It is 1? hours. In addition, there will be a brief introduction of the film, a short talk and discussion after the screening and a handout about the movie.

There will be refreshments. No reservations are required. Beit Knesset Hanassi is located at 24 Ussishkin Street.

Letter to the editor

2 weeks ago I read an article in Mishpacha Magazine on WFPB eating. This week, Mishpacha printed my letter responding to the article:

?

I can¡¯t express my appreciation enough for your article, ¡°Of Life Changes and Legumes.¡± Calling attention to the benefits of whole-food plant-based (WFPB) eating will help everyone in many, many ways to prevent and reverse chronic disease and illness in general.

Whereas this ¡°case study¡± was inspirational to read, I think it needs to be pointed out that there are more than 10,000 studies of all kinds ¡ª randomized, controlled, epidemiological, laboratory, and observational ¡ª that all come to the same conclusions. WFPB eating can cut your risk of all major disease by as much as 85%.

In my clinic, I¡¯ve seen people reverse type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, early stage cancer, and even chronic kidney disease.
