Honors

Said the Bratslaver:
"1. A man should diminish honors to himself, and strive to increase honor of the Lord.
2. Do not pursue honors; rather flee from them. Then God will approve your honors, and people will not investigate or question whether you deserve your honors.
3. Through a recognition that your honors are as nothing compared to the glory of the Lord, you will attain understanding of the profundity of the Torah.
4. Through bringing nearer to God those who are far from Him, you will increase the glory of God."

The Knot

Said the Alexander Rabbi: "The Psalmist in 118:27 orders us: 'Bind the feast with cords.' The meaning of this phrase is as follows: Unless the tailor knots the thread, his labor is in vain. Likewise, unless we strive to secure in our minds the lessons learned during the holydays, the Rabbi's work is for naught."

SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM?
Day 112 – Rumors
?
Halacha allows for certain rumors to be reckoned with, but never are they to be accepted as fact.
?
It is important to note the halachik qualifications which distinguish a rumor that may have some credence from that which is mere character assassination. If the subject is known to have enemies in the community who are very possibly the source of the rumors, it may not be granted any legitimacy. Even if everyone in the community has a favorable opinion of the subject, the rumor would have to circulate throughout the community for one and a half days without losing strength before it could be taken seriously.
?
When a rumor does seem to have validity, halacha allows for it to cast doubt on the status of the person(s) involved; e.g. where the report concerns the subject’s status as a kohen or similar issues of lineage.
?
The unfortunate reality is that rarely is a rumor anything more than wide-scale loshon hora. Even when halacha grants a rumor some degree of validity, it cannot be accepted as fact.
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
The Quality of Acceptance
?
In striving to develop the quality of shmiras haloshon, one must place great emphasis on reacting toward any situation with savlanus, that is, to be tolerant of whatever negativity is thrown one’s way. In the words of Avos D’R’ Nosson (41:11): “Condition yourself to tolerate distress, and be forgiving of insult.’’ Through such character development, the quality of shmiras haloshon is easily attainable. Conversely, one who lacks savlanus will forever be torn by the need to relate the wrongs which others have done against him. At times, he will prevail in this struggle; other times, he will fail.
?
A savlan is capable of bearing insult in silence. He tells himself that whatever occurs is an expression of Divine will, and that in reality his own sins are the true causes of his being shamed. When one accepts disgrace in this way, totally and sincerely, Hashem surely elevates his stature in this world and in the next.

The magnesite stone is known as a brain stone. I think it really has a "brainy" look about it, do you see the resemblance? (See attached flyer)

The Altar in Our Heart

Said the Besht: "The Torah commands us: 'Fire shall be kept burning upon the altar continually; it shall not go out' (Leviticus 6:6). Our heart is the altar. In every occupation let a spark of the holy fire remain within you, so that you may fan it into a flame."

Fire Safety Tips to Stay Safe this Summer

er

?????
Thank you for supporting the work of the CHAYA MALKA BURN FOUNDATION HELPING?BURN PATIENTS RECOVER AND THRIVE.

Your help?is VERY?precious.?
Fire Safety Tips To Stay Safe this Summer

Warm weather calls for a summer of fun activities, from busy barbecues to bonfires.?But, are you aware of?the safety steps you can take to keep safe this summer? Most fire hazards can be reduced or stopped just by having awareness and making small but significant changes in behaviour. We want to make sure you feel safe during the summertime, so we have put together a guide to help you remain aware and in control.
?

CAMPFIRES

Fields of grass can become extremely dry in the hotter months, and with outdoor events such as barbecues, there is a chance that fire could spread easily.

If you are starting a campfire in an outdoor area, you need to ensure that you know how to put out a fire. The safest way to do this is to douse the fire with water immediately. Make sure you pack the appropriate tools, such as a bucket for water when you stay at a?campsite.

Choose a safe location that is away from overly grassy areas, overhanging trees or anything in your immediate environment that could ignite?a fire. By digging a foot deep hole surrounded by rocks, you can get your fire started in the safest way possible.

Always ignite small twigs, leaves or dry grass?with a match or lighter – do not use gasoline to start a campfire. Someone must always be present while burning a bonfire even when it is smouldering.

BARBECUES

Whether it be in your family garden or on a camping holiday, you should always barbecue safely and responsibly.

Depending on the type of barbecue you are planning to use, different safety measures are suggested. Whichever barbecue you use, ensure that it is in good working condition to prevent the risk of fire. Never use flammable liquids to light a barbecue and?only use barbecues?in safe areas away from fences, sheds and anything that could catch fire.

CHARCOAL BARBECUES

Official charcoal starter fluid is necessary if you are using a charcoal barbecue. Charcoal barbecues need to be on a flat surface – without too much charcoal on the grill – since it could tip and start a fire on the floor. After you have finished with your charcoal, make sure it is totally cold.?

GAS BARBECUES

Before using a gas barbecue, you need to properly check for propane leaks. When storing gas cylinders, you must keep them safely away from direct sunlight and icy conditions. When you are finished with using it, you need to turn the gas supply off and then the barbecue to prevent any leaks.

ELECTRICAL FIRES

Did you know that electrical fires are most common during the summertime, especially in unexpected heatwaves? When it gets too hot, especially in working environments and at home, we tend to bring the fans and air conditioner units out to cool down. However, if you’re not careful, there’s a chance you can cause electrical fires due to overloading plug sockets or unsafe appliances.

If sockets, adapters or extension leads are overloaded, they can overheat and potentially cause a fire. You should always check the condition of your cooling devices before use, keeping an eye out for general wear and tear or loose cables.

NATURAL FIRES

Summer can be one of the most dangerous seasons for?fire-related injuries. With the sunny weather conditions, we are subject to more lightning strikes, which are at their peak in the summer months. Drier weather conditions and high temperatures create high risk of fire.?

To prevent fire caused by lightning strikes, you need to maintain your lawn, trees and bushes around your property.

Keeping gutters clear and tidy will also help reduce the risk of debris catching fire.

Magnets are also available in English & Hebrew.

3 Burn Patients Need Urgent Help

We are now helping?15 year old Galit Karni.?She?needs more trauma therapy ASAP ($100/session/week).

Mendy is now 14. His injuries of 60% burns on his upper body at age 7 contribute to daily challenges with his self-image. Mendy needs another operation in Shriner Burn Hospital in Cincinnati to relieve scarring and contractions of the skin that severely constrict his movement. The Pollacks need help to pay for three airline tickets to Cincinnati which cost about $1000 each. They will be traveling in three to four months. ( I was recently speaking to Mrs. Pollak. She told me of the tremendous gratitude her family has to the donors who contributed to the purchase of a special machine last October that?makes hot water: two hours of boiling water, that fills Mendy's daily baths, combating infections and giving him a bit of relaxation).

Nissim (2 years old) has been?in?the hospital for 6 weeks (2 skin grafts). He is now at a rehabilitation hospital for children in Jerusalem (Alyn). He?needs money for creams (1 container which lasts for about a week costs $60)?and soon he will also need pressure garments.?

SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM
?
Day 111 – Between Teachers and Students
?
Loshon hora initiated by children and accepted as fact by their believing parents is often a cause of major injustice. It happens all too often that one or two key students in a class arbitrarily take a disliking to their teacher and stories are exaggerated and circulated. Well-meaning parents accept their children’s accounts of the going-on at school and before long the teacher finds himself struggling to defend his position.
?
As every adult knows, student dissatisfaction is not necessarily an indication of a teacher’s inadequacy as an educator. The students’ version of a situation must be considered but not accepted as fact. A thorough and discreet investigation – one which does not cause the teacher embarrassment – must be conducted before a teacher is declared at fault.
?
A teacher too, must avoid believing accusations directed by students against one another. Here, too, an investigation is called for, and unless the facts can be established, no action should be taken.
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
Meriting the Light
?
The Torah states: “... and they [the judges] shall judge the people with righteous judgment” (Devarim?16:18). Midrash Tanchuma comments:
?
R’ Yehudah ben R’ Shalom said: [This teaches] that the judges should strive to find merit for their people before the Holy One, Blessed is He. From whom do we learn this? From Gidon ben Yoash. In his days, Israel was in distress and God sought someone who could speak their merit [and thereby arouse Divine compassion for them] but no one could be found, for the generation was poor in its fulfillment of mitzvos and performance of good deeds. As soon as Gidon was deemed worthy of having found merit for them, a Heavenly angel revealed himself to him. Thus it is written, “And an angel of Hashem appeared to him ... and he said, ‘Go with this strength of yours’ ” (Shoftim?6:12-14), meaning, “with the strength of the merit which you found for My children.’’
?
This, then, is the meaning of “... and they [the judges] shall judge the people with righteous judgment,’’ i.e. that they should strive to find merit for the generation.
?
The above, too, underscores the greatness of finding merit for the Jewish people before Hashem. One who does so becomes a receptacle for the spiritual light of the sacred Heavenly sanctuary which is called the Sanctuary of Merit; for it is there that the merits of Israel are mentioned, as stated in Sefer Chareidim.
