Nine years since my NAION event

In 2015, happened during MEGA-INTENSE work projects. Left eye, suddenly went 30% dark.?
My N.O.: "you are lucky, it was not worse." (Dang)

"Danger zone" for 2nd attack, research indicates 5 years. So, I'm (probably) OK.?

Now semi-retired, work at being "calm." (Michael Sealey recordings)

Still concerned about cataract surgery.?

Have a hard decision to make, in next year -- surgery or not.

You did a good job staying unilateral for 9 years. Well done and thanks for sharing.?
I feel anxious every time I read or hear someone says ¡° I am bilateral¡±.?

My NAION has been unilateral for 12 years. I am not bilateral but I am bisexual and I ride a bicycle.

It¡¯s good to hear that you are doing ok. How many years apart for the two attacks? And how do you manage? Thanks for sharing

Hi. First attack December 2015. Second attack March 2017. Still drive subject to a DVLC annuall eye test. Carried on life much the same as before the attack. Had to stop mountain biking squash and golf. Much to my disappointment. Lost my HGV licence. Can¡¯t drive at night. Struggle identifying faces. But the reality was that the fear of it happening in the second eye wasn¡¯t as bad as the reality

Hi Paul,
Thanks again for sharing.

What do you think is the cause of the 2nd attack? What did you do after the first attack to prevent the 2nd one? In retrospect, what is the lesson or opinion you can share with us?

Thanks a lot

Hi Chuu. I was under an ophthalmologist for 5 years. Was never given a reason for either attack. In my own opinion I¡¯m going with the crowded disc theory. As for changes to life style after first attack the only ones I made were the ones that were forced on me. Like you I¡¯m coming up to 9 years so fingers crossed it doesn¡¯t happen again. I understand once space has been cleared in the optic nerve it shouldn¡¯t happen again
